Good? Bad? Junk? What?

Been thinking of getting a FMJ derringer to leave by the bed. Don't really care about the 45LC option, have a BOND derringer for that, but for the .410 option.:D

Experiences or comments welcome.

I have had one for at least ten years and still haven't got up the nerve to shoot it. I have a Bond Arms with several different barrel sets, including .45 Colt/410 and I shoot them occasionally. My reluctance with the FMJ isn't a recoil issue, it's more like wondering if the FMJ is in hand grenade mode or not. My reason for buying it was that it shows just how futile and ridiculous gun control laws are.

The FMJ design was originally a flare pistol.
While, crude, it is a safe design.
Be aware-some of these guns were sold in kits without the breech face welded to the frame. Make sure the breech is securely welded to the frame.

I've had a number of them over the years. The SxS 45/410, the O/U 45/410, the SxS .357mag, the .22rf over 45/410, the pepperbox 45/410 & pepperbox 22rf, the 18" 45/410 SxS, and the single shot 45/410. Not one failure - ever..

If you're a wuss, or unaccustomed to guns that roll up - the stiffer 2.5" and the 3" 410's might not be fun for you. You might want to take a file and de-burr the edges of the receiver sideplates if the factory didn't do a good job.

I usually shimmed mine at the pivot pin so they weren't so "floppy" when open. I use plastic from a pop bottle and make a washer for each side of the barrel lug.

Keep in mind that extraction is manual, so keep a pocket knife, small screwdriver, or something to pry out the empties. Do NOT shoot .45 Colt+P's, .454 Casulls, .460S&W, or .450 Mongo's in the FMJ/Cobray/Lienad derringers despite the fact that they will fit. Only use standard .45Colt loads and 2.5"-3" .410's.

It's nothing to do with being a wuss, and everything to do with needing a certain amount of "handlable" surface area in order to securely hold a gun in one's hand. The bigger your hand, the more difficulty you're going to have getting comfortable with holding and shooting these suckers. I've got large, meaty and not particularly dexterous hands, so these firearms are out of the question for me - as is just about any firearm with control/bearing surfaces smaller than those on a J-frame S&W.

For a long time I've wanted to buy one of these things:

Which as far as I can tell, is a Cobray/FMJ .410 derringer.

I've searched, and searched, and searched, and then I searched again. After that I searched some more. Then I searched again. I can't find one anywhere. I've read everything from "they've been out of business and out of production for years" to "I just bought a new one yesterday". Where the heck can I buy one of these things?!

The trigger isn't that hard to fix. ...the trigger pull that is. The sear and hammer can be honed to give a nice pull. The actual trigger itself though, well thats another story. lol
