Fluid in older Bushnell scope?

I have an odd one. I got out a rifle with an older (early 90's) Bushnell sportview scope on it. It appears that something has been leaking from between the objective adjustment ring and the main tube. It looks to be clear and it kind or sticky.

Could it have actually come from the scope itself? I can't imagine that I would have put any kid of lubricant in there and the rifle itself hasn't been used in years. It was in the safe objective side up and the top lens is clear so I am just at a loss trying to figure out what it is.

Thoughts?

It is the lubricant used on the adjustable optic threads to seal yet still allow the front lens to move. Just wipe it off with solvent.
