Dunno why I didn't tumble to this sooner. Seems to me that New Yorkers actually control 58 electoral votes now, 33 in the Old Country and 25 in Florida. Take a look at the electoral college map, and assume that New Mexico goes to Bush. It's a stunning testament to the polarization of the country. It's even more graphic if you look at a county by county breakout. There's a swath a thousand miles wide and 1500 miles deep that Gore didn't carry 10 counties in. Just incredible.
