Flogged or forgiven?

I see Smith & Wesson getting flogged in the press a lot lately. My question is should they be driven out of business or forgiven and brought back into the fold? I hate what they did but losing a major firearms manufacturer seems a loss to us all and a gain for weak willie. I cannot seem to make my mind up on this. What do you think?

I see this as a no-win situation. If we say that all is forgiven, then we will be supporting a company that has turned it's back on it's customers by supporting anti-gun views, poolicies, etc. If we boycott them out of business then it is still a victory for the anti's as it will be one less gun maker that they have to worry about.

Boycott or no, the new features that they will have to incorporate into their guns as a result of the agreement will make their product less attractive when compared to others. For example, no new S&W pistols will be able to accept the older, pre-ban hi-cap mags. Well, if I was in the markey for a full-size 9mm and S&W only gave me 10 rounds while I could get 15 with Beretta because their models still accept pre-ban hi-cap mags, which gun do you think I am going to buy despite my fondness for S&W pistols? Get the pisture?

I see the boycott as not so much a punishment to S&W or a message to the anti's... but as a warning to all the other gun manufacturers out there.

I firmly believe that if we forgive S&W and continue to buy their products, the other makers will eventually trip over each other trying to be the next in line to sign the agreement. Gun making is a business. Losing customers is bad business, lawsuits are bad business. If we let them know that they can avoid both then that's great business (:.

Some of my S&W's are amongst the most prized in my collection. They have several models out now that I am drooling over. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER ONE! Not necessarily because of a sudden hatred for S&W, but because I still want my kids to be able to buy some more Beretta's, Sig's, HK's, Winchester's...

We support the rest of the industry and we embolden them by killing S&W. The alternative would have been to support S&W, help them prosper, and then the other manufacturers would have had more temptation to take the easy way out.

S&W must die.

And, when they are dead, their assets will likely be purchased out of bankruptcy court, hopefully by a wiser company. Those assets will include their designs, equipment, facilities and ... even their name.

It was the only logical course of action.

S&W must die.

Live and let live ... except for S&W ;)

If *&* gets new owners maybe they will rename the company W & S. Wiser & Smarter. We can only hope. John

We vote with our dollars. If S&W takes its balls out of its back pocket and abrogates the agreement with the Feds, and tells the cities "sue and be damned to you", and stands up for their customers' right to keep and bear arms, I'll consider shopping S&W again. They'd better do it fast, though, because the longer they go the more they'll have to work to get back.

If they persist in double-crossing their customers, I agree with Jeff T. We starve them of dollars and they die, "pour encourager des autres". You can bet Bill Ruger, Gaston Glock and other peers are watching the situation. A simple connection is being reinforced in their minds:

SELLOUT RKBA = CHAPTER 11

As the others have said, put them under. Remember Neville Chamberlain and Munich back before WWII? History repeats itself unless we act otherwise....

That goes for Ruger, Colt, Remington and Glock too.

It IS sad, but they made a decision they can't take back. If they could simply break the contract and go on about their business, then we'd try for that instead of putting them out of business. But they made a permanent deal and CANNOT come back into the fold even if they and we wish it.

They can't break the contract, so they're stuck on their course. And we can't allow the kind of things they agreed to, so we're equally stuck.

We seem to have a unanimous vote going here. I have to agree with the logic of the arguments presented so far. One bad apple can spoil the whole barrel. Let S&W wallow in the poverty of their decision.
That company has served shooters so well for so long. It makes me sick to turn on them because cowardly people own the company now. I may die of joy the day weak willie leaves office.

Don't you think that they (Government)knew this would happen ? I believe they did. They know how we react. The outcome resulted in the downfall of a major Gun manufacturer. They played it perfectly. We lost and so did Smith & Wesson. Watch the next plan.

RaSosko, as somebody else mentioned, we can always hope that when they go under, another company will purchase the plant, equipment, copyrights, etc.; for pennies on the dollar and resume making these fine guns. I don't like the idea of never being able to buy a new S&W pistol but I don't want one with the new features that they will be putting in either.

FUD, I understand what your saying, However, This aggreement with S&W and the Gov'nt was well planned by the Gov'nt. They suckered S&W into their plot. This was a well thought out plan at the top levels. Next you'll see them go after 45 or 357 ammo. They'll stop the maufacturing of these calibers thus making all 45's and 357 handguns absolite. Most police/military use 9MM. Good way to get rid of guns.

On a more positive note. Al Gore is gonna get his ass kicked in November. He's a Dork. Nobody likes him except the commie queer loving liberal media. Watching them snivel over his impending political demise causes me to giggle with sadistic glee.
Smith & Wesson ain't getting none of my business till they go broke and are resurrected as Smith, Taurus, & Wesson or something like that. Good times are coming back for those of us that still believe in America!

The one thing I find the most disturbing is that it's our money . While we are out working , having other things on our minds , they are sitting around AND GETTING PAID ALL THE TIME , while thinking of how to do these things . Brainstorming sessions and researching old decrepid laws that "might" apply if the "right" judge is approached .
Every failure costs them nothing but it takes our money . They don't care if they waste our money as long as it keeps them working .
Another example that really is not a topic here is the Hubbell telescope . Another example of waste . If they turned it around would they be able to focus in on all the children that go to bed hungry right here in the USA ? To know where we came from won't change it . To know where we are going does not give us the power to change it . We need our money and resources to help not go off into space . It has a small link to the topic of gun control though . If it suits their wants no price is too high .
