Two schools of thought:
1- Bed the forearm to the receiver and forearm hanger, free-float the barrel. This is typically used on rifles with a forearm hanger like Ruger #1, later Win High Wall, etc.
2- Bed the forearm so that nothing touches the receiver and all the contact is on the barrel. This is used on rifles like older Win 1885s without the forearm hanger, Martinis, NEF/H&R, etc, where the forearm is connecred to the barrel with a screw.
