Flip up sights on a shotgun?

I recently ordered a full length minotaur picatinny rail for my Remington 870 with a 18.5 in. barrel. I am placing an M-68 aimpoint on the rail and was wondering if I placed magpul front and rear flip up sights on the rail if they would be a viable option. I also ordered a Knoxx stock with the raised comb so that should help put me in line with the sights. Specifically I am wondering if they will be too high to effectively use. If they are not a viable option, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for Iron sights I can place on a picatinny rail that will work with my shotgun. I'm currently deployed so unfortunately I wont have hands on my shotgun for a couple more months, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wait until you're back home and get the new stock installed. How it fits you determines the optimum height of the sight(s). Sadly, stock/sight fitting isn't something that can be done effectively while you're away.

Good luck and thanks for your service.

As a guy who feels that rifle sights are just fine, I'm curious what you plan to do with with a shotgun equipped with an Aimpoint sight?

Do you have a rifled barrel on your 870?

I'm not trying to be judgmental, just curious.

Thanks!

I don't have a slug barrel but, if I ever got one having the ability to easily mount an optic is nice. The purpose of this shotgun will be home defense. In my experience an M68 and a weapons light makes for a pretty effective close quarters and/or low light combination, granted that is with an M-4 carbine. Being deployed Leupold gave us a really good deal on mark 4 1-3x14mm CQ/T scopes so my aimpoint doesn't really have a home on my Bushmaster anymore, so I thought why not throw it on my 870. If I don't like the set up I can always go back to my XS front sight. That being said I always emphasis to my soldiers the importance of learning to shoot well with your iron sights because you never know when you could be left with an inoperable battery powered sight.

I have an 11/87 with a cantilever slug barrel.

I put shoot through rings with a ghost ring underneath for close up and a turkey scope X2 atop for distance work. The thing is amazingly accurate (2-3MOA) at 100 meters with 1 oz slugs. I am not crazy about the M68 on a shotgun and there are no batteries to go dead.

I am not sure what your intended use for the shotgun is but this one is ideal for me for deer hunting and HD. The optic is very high but once you get used to it, it is not a problem.
