I have recently become quite interested in a flintlock rifle (and a fowler) but want good quality and as close to late 18th century firearms as possible. From my little research, there seems to be a lot of junk out there. It seems one thing of importance are good locks, etc. One should get a gun where parts are available rather than some imports. I have noticed several companies than make and some that provide kits ranging from $500 on up. I would like to keep the price no more than a $1000 (for a southern style rifle, not fancy). I have read good things about Tennessee Valley MZ, Deer Creek, Cabin Creek, Jim Chambers, etc. Does anyone have experience with these or other similar rifles and any other comments? Thanks.
