I am shooting flinters these days and was wondering if any one knows a good book or where to find info on knapping rifle flints? mine just don't come out like the english flints for $2.00 aiece.

Sorry, I don't know any good books. Quite honestly, I think you would be better off with a FTF demo to see how it is done. You might do well with some of the videos on YouTube.
The problem with flintknapping in general is that it is an art, not a science, though it is based on the science of fracture dynamics, pressure waves, etc. It takes a LOT of practice.
See if you can find something from Bruce Bradley on the web. He knaps projectile points but the basics are the same. May be some info out there on French flint knappers also.

I'm a flinter and have tried knapping. What I get are cut fingers and a lot of useless chips.
There's nothing like cutting that first finger open in the field across a razor-sharp flint, watching the blood dribble, to make you feel sick and stupid at the same time...
i tried it and gave up when i ran out of fingers to slice open. and i was accused of trying to screw the cat and that was the last straw. now i look for good flints at gun shows and store close outs. eastbank.
