Here's a picture of my first three S&W revolvers; based on classic models and carefully chosen to provide for a range of possible uses. Top left is a nickel Model 36 with flat latch. Top right is Model 66-3 with 3" barrel and stag grips. Bottom is a pre-27. All three shoot as sweetly as you can possibly imagine.

I do have one question about the front sight on the 66. It's different from most 66s and is missing the little orange piece. Does anyone know if my front sight could be original or was it changed in the past? Thanks

PS. This is my first attempt at adding photos using PhotoBucket. The learning process is a bit slow (OK, MY learning process) but it should be easier from now on...
 
Nice collection! I really like that flat latch 36 and I am envious of your five screw 27. I have been looking for an early model 27 for a few years now and they just don't seem to turn up around here. M66 Smith's are hot on the market right now and I feel fortunate to have one myself.

The front sight on the Model 66 has been changed. They came with a stainless front sight from the factory. The good news is that they are available from various sources and are a drop in job to replace. A big plus is that it has what appears to be a factory 3" barrel. Right now the shorter barrels are the most popular and command a premium over the more common 4" barrels.

I thought this initially but now think this sight is original. According to S&W, the SKU for this gun is "102712 M66 357MAG 3”* RSR Special". The other 66/3"ers sold in 1990 had a SKU of "102719 M66 3" RRWO RB Whit Faux Ivory grips".

The RRWO denotes Red Ramp front sight and White Outline rear sight. Since the SKU for my gun does not have this designation, I believe RSR elected a plain, blued front sight. This sight does appear on other S&W revolvers of this era.

I'm happy with it as it is but I wonder if other users feel the red insert is a plus or a minus...
 
The non-checkered diamond around the grip screw isn't something you see much of any more, I have 2 sets stashed away in an ammo can somewhere...

You have covered your bases well and with some very nice guns to boot. I am jealous.
 
I do like the red ramp insert. It's no more effective than a dab of bright-colored paint, but looks much neater.

FLChinook, you have selected well. Each of your Smiths is desirable, collectable, and valuable. Each is iconic for its frame size.

Whooa... there's other calibers??? :D

I'm only showing my revolvers... the flagship of my handgun fleet. I do have .22, .32. .45 in various semi-auto brands. But none have the beauty of a revolver... especially the classics. Having said that, I do need to find a classic S&W .22 revolver... any ideas... :)
 
The K-22 and its later variants Models 17 and 18 are considered the cream of the rimfire crop for many shooters. They are K-frames with a 6" or 4" barrel. These are usually blued and rarely in nickel.

There are also J-frame .22s, Models 34 (blue) and 63 (Stainless).

The current medium frame in stainless is the Model 617, available in 4" or 6" barrels and 6-shot or 10-shot cylinders.
 
Nice guns OP. It took me a long time to get a 5 screw 357. I'm sure you will get more S&W wheel guns.

In addition, the model 34 was available in nickel. Other J frame 22s include the model 43, ,22/32 kit gun airweight, the model 35, 22/32 kit gun target 6 in barrel with patridge front sight and the model 51, 22/32 kit gun airweight 22 mag.

J-frame .22's?! Don't let my wife find out since she has a thing for 36's lol
