Flatop rail riser size

Hello, Could someone please give me some insight here . The scope and/or the red dot I have tried on the flattop I just bought has a problem in that the A2 front sight get's in the way .

I would like to try a riser. The thing is there are at least 3 heights to choose from. Anyone know the best height to use? I'm thinking 1/2 or 1 inch .

Like to use the 1/2 inch as I have heard the further you get above the barrel the more it effects the accuracy . The 1 inch would be nice as it would get it up higher above the front sight. I don't know if 1 inch is going to make that much difference in accuracy.

The carry handle is pretty tall on the A1? model so I am thinking the 1 inch rise won't hurt anything . There's good reasons for both the 1/2 and 1 inch one as I see it.

Gonna get a rear iron sight for this rifle to so I need to leave the A2 front sight on otherwise this would be a simple answer.
Thank You for Your Help , Don

Depends on what you want to mount as each will vary on base or ring height. Most often 1/2 to 3/4" is sufficient. A little more info would be helpful.

specs ?

Thanks for the reply . I have a red dot which the top is 2 inches above the flatop rail it has a 1 inch tall "window?" and the scope I had tried is a Tasco 3-9X 40mm which the front goes right into the Foregrip . Doesn't touch -but close guessing due to the scope rings they came with .

I took the scope off of a Henry pump .22 I have and the red dot I bought at a gun show doesn't appear to have markings.

Thinking the 1 inch riser might be the best bet. If 3/4 is OK then 1 inch shouldn't hurt anything .. I Guess? ..

The .22 I have can shoot 2 inch groups at 100 yards all day and that's all I'd like to do with this. Rifle Spikes Tactical Midlength Gas system and 16 inch barrel. I know I should be able to do this with open sights but I just not that good of a shot. Thus the optics.

Thanks again for the reply .Sorry for my long answer back .. Don

From your description I assume you have an Eotech (based on your 'window' description). Regardless, the red dot/ reticle should 'co-witness' your front sight, meaning the position of the dot/ reticle when viewed through the window should actually rest on top of the front sight post. Unless you have a folding front sight you are gonna see it through the optic. You could raise the optic high enough to where it is out of your field of view but you'd totally loose your cheek weld. My Bushy M4gery is set up with an Eotech co-witnessed to an A2 front sight and after a short bit you don't even notice it as you are focused on the reticle. In short, raise the optic just enough to where the dot rests on top of the front sight pin or close to it depending on your zero.

Thank You Very Much ...

Wow, Thanks this is a perfect answer for me .. haven't been to the range with this yet but the rectile does line up with the top of the front sight pin when the "red dot" is pretty much centered in the "window"... so perhaps there is no problem and won't be unless I cause one ..

Now the scope might be another thing but I will try it first .. I have mags,a rear sight and ammo coming in the mail then I will just go try it before making any changes .. sometimes its best to just leave well enough alone.

Thanks so much brmfan can't wait to go "Bang" with this new Spikes Rifle,Don

No worries Diver! That's a fine rifle you have and I think you will find hitting targets with that setup so easy it'll get boring after a while! ;)
