FL panhandle hogs....

Couldn't resist.

They can smell you from a mile away.
They can't see well. If the wind is right (prob is if you see them) and you have cover behind you, you can walk right up to them.

That would be do-able. What place do you have in mind?

If I had the money I would almost be at the point of getting a guided hunt.

But alas, my cash is not present.

I hunt mainly around Perry for hogs. A friend of mine has several feeders up so seeing a hog is not a problem. Most run about 100 lbs- great for eating. Sometimes you get to see a large boar but I leave them alone for the most part. I only go after the meat hogs. If you want to go after a big tusker then I would recommend the San Pedro Bay area in Taylor or Dixie county. The biggest hog that I ever seen or shot was in the bay- ~460 lbs of big red mean hog. Shot him when I was 16 and took 3 hits from a 30-06 to do it.

Private land i'm assuming? Are they a nuisance or would there be money involved?

Meat hogs sound good (in more ways than one!)

I used to hunt eglin when I was in Navarre. I didn't really like it. Mainly because of my lack of experience, but also from the amount of hunters. When I was there I really couldn't do anything but stand hunt.

Also, as I remember they had a few regulations on hogs, a little more than other public land. I also don't ever remember running into any. Of course I really didn't hunt near any swamps.

The deer are not very well managed, I never really saw any large ones, and the Doe population was amazing. I have seen herds of at least 20+...

I'll agree with the deer management and amount of hunters in the "easy" places to access. The hogs hang out of the edges of the swamps and near the creeks. They've been relaxing on the hogs because they are tearing things up too much. I've had to herd them off A77 with an M60 because they wouldn't leave the range with just helo noise. They barely wanted to move with a steady stream 7.62 chasing them. I didn't want to shoot them because we couldn't recover them. I haven't hunted the range for about 10 years, this will be the first time I've been home for gun season in that long. That's another strange thing with the range, unlike the rest of the state they have a hog season. I'm going to give it a shot this year.

If you let me know what the season is, might be interested if you want a hunting partner (or two, I bring my 7yr old)

It would really depend on deer season, I have a lease over here which I plan on spending as much time in as I can...

I'll have to check, but I think it runs concurrent with deer season. When I was looking they were only showing a general gun season. It was something like Nov 23-25 then again for two weeks in Dec.
