Fix for Damaged Metal Trigger Guard Mossberg 590A1???

Kicking myself in the rear! I let a bayonet in scabbard fall from a shelf and of course it hit the trigger guard of my 590A1, taking out a couple of nice chuncks right down to the shiny metal underneath the finish. Any suggestions on what to do?

PS: If this belongs in the gunsmithing area my aplogies.

Did it gouge the trigger guard much? If it just scarred the finish, paint over it with a permanent magic marker. If it ain't gouged too much, use some steel wool to smooth it out. Otherwise it would be about as cheap to buy a whole used trigger assembly from gunbroker or another of the used auctions.

Looking at my Mossy 500, it appears to be plastic. It may have metal under the plastic. If so, build it up with epoxy and smooth it down with sandpaper and paint it with the magic marker.

Anyone else with a better option?

The 590A1 has an all-metal trigger guard vs. the plastic one on the 500. Epoxy will probably not help. My advice? Leave it as is for character. Of course, I bought mine used so I don't mind if it gets a little beat up.

can you cold blue it? Is it aluminum or steel (is it magnetic)?

Black cover paint / magic marker or strip it bare of parts, smooth over the damage and apply a home finish like gun coat, bake it and be done... brownells sells it about 25 bucks for a small spray can.
