Five seveN

Does anyone have any comments on the Five seveN, P90, or the 5.7x28mm round in general? I know a lot about them but I'm getting mixed reviews.

Thanks

shoots thru vests

It's stupid to ban this round from civ use, we have many other rounds that penetrate into kevlar better and you dont see criminals packing them, 220 swift - 4000 fps it will go thru multiple peeps wearing vests, .22-250 3600 fps another kevlar killer, .243 - 3000 fps kevlar killer, .25 - 06 fast, now the new .17 hornady wmr with a ballistic tip, that will slice right thru kevlar with ease.

As the law sees it, any round chambered in a handgun that can defeat tactical armor is verboten. Of course, with the availability of the T/C Contender and barrels chambering rifle cartridges I guess they had to look the other way at least once.

Never, never try to apply logic to any gun control/ban law. Every last one of them fall apart in the face of a logical argument. Every last one of them is based on an irrational "Well, someone might..." argument.

dsk,

Well, 7.62x25 does so, rather handily. I'd imagine .30 Carbine FMJ out of a long-barreled Blackhawk or Auto-Mag III would do a number on a pistol-rated vest, too.

I believe the prohibition in on certain percentages of certain materials (which are specifically listed) which are not to be used in the construction of handgun bullets.

How hard would it be to replace the bbl on an Automag III with one chambered for the 5.7mm Spitfire. .30 carbine necked down to .223, fits and fires just fine out of a rebarreled M1.

Ballistics are similar to the .223, a little lighter. Then you'd have a Five seveN that the BATF didn't know about and couldn't do anything about even if they did.

Just remembered, a friend tested his IPSC race gun in .38 super loaded with 125s to 1400 fps on some vests for the police dept. He said they went through the vests like butter.

Sometimes the Feds can be so stupid.

There's also 9x25 Dillon and .30 Armco, which is 10mm Auto necked down to take 9mm and .30 Carbine bullets, respectively. .38 Casull really throws a 9mm bullet at a good clip, too.

Lotta screamers out there on the fringes of the handgun caliber world.
