Five seveN Pistol

Just got to try out the new 5.7 FN pistol yesterday. I AM IMPRESSED. 20rnd magazine, accuracy like a laser, a trigger clean, smooth, and crisp.Perfect reliability. I WANT ONE!!!!!
But of course I can't have one personally. LE AGENCY ONLY. I fired one 5rnd group at 10 yards and got a 1/2" group freehand. FN promised that the round would perform as advertised on target, and stated that The round would penetrate a kevlar helmet at 150metres. If it turns out to be true, it is the Holy Grail of spec ops. FN also advised that the round would not penetrate more than 12in. of ballistic jelly.

The sole purpose of this round is penetration of SBA at close ranges. I am outraged that the government is attempting to control something that they have no legal authority over, but this round is not especially useable against unarmored foes.

To my understanding, it was not the government that made the decision of no civilian sales, it was the company's. This gun, I understand, is manufactured in the US, thus is controlled by laws and not Klintonistic decree. Other than a potential political uproar from LE and left wing politicians, there is absolutely no reason that this company should not have released a civilian 10 round version.

Imagine the varmint potential :)

This is part of an email I got back from Leitner regarding their cartridge about a month ago. They may not sell the guns to us but the cartridge for gun conversions may become availble.

"Ref the 7.82S this cartridge is a complete departure from a clasical ammunition design route for a compact cartridge, By employing a mode of operation not normally assosiated with pistol ammunition we have the ability to outperform all known designs in this class both experimental and production. However to cut the sales patter and move to your inquiry about a Glock mod, one of the specific design goals for the 7.82S is direct compatability with polymer frame weapons
under "all current military enviromental conditions", so your Glock conversion should be easy. The down side is that 7.82S is still very much a test bed cartridge so I would not currently recommend a mod as ammunition is only being made in the labs and I still have the natural ability to get at least most of the cartridge details wrong before the project enters the PD phase.

Finally if all goes well 7.82S in a non military configuration is intended to also fit a civilian market."
