Well, I just got back from deer hunting. I got two doe's and an 8 point buck.
Both doe's dressed at about 145 pounds. The first doe I shot with the 44 mag Super Blackhawk and a 300gr cast bullet at around 80 yards from a stand. She was quartering away, down hill, and the bullet entered just in front of the last rib High on the body. It came out just ahead of the front leg, penitarting as straight as an arrow. She was on a small flat and took two hops, then slid down the hill all the way to the creek bottom. Since that creek bottom at that point has banks about 8 feet high and straight up, I had to gut her in the water then drag her about 150 yards just to get her out of the creek. Then I pulled her out and went back to hunting. It ended up being a long drag across two hollers just to get her where an ATV could pick her up.
The forth day I took the GP 100 loaded with my 175gr cast bullets. I was headed for a ridge that I had seen much buck sign on. I was in a wide flat when a doe stepped out in front of me at about 65 yards. She was broad side so I shot her through the lungs. She ran across that flat and fell at the edge of the woods. That edge is also the edge of another deep holler. She rolled up on her belly with her head up. The range was then about 85 yards. I said heck no, not again. I put the front sight on her ears and fired. The bullet hit her in the neck just behind the skull, done deal. I gutted her and went back to hunting.
I still hunted the ridge. I stopped and leaned up against a tree for about 20 minutes when two doe's came out and froze. My hand was already resting on my gun so I broke the thumb break. A few minutes later an 8 point buck steps out, like 15 yards from me. he was quartering away looking at the doe's. If I would have slow drawn and cocked the hammer the doe's would have seen me and bolted, taking him with them. I rapid drew and fired two rounds at him double action. He went straight down the ridge about 50 yards and dropped. Both bullets fully penitrated.
Not too bad huh?
