Five-Inches is Best!

I admit it's not the best for CCW but having put more than 1000 rounds through my PC 627 I've come to conclude that the 5" barrel is a woderful length - more sight radius than the 4" (also 1" closer to the target) and better balance in my hand at least than the 6 inch plus barrel lengths. Anyone else a fan of 5" revolvers? Dennis

A 5" is the perfect compromise between a 6" and 4". It is kind of the same principle as a 3": perfect compromise between full size and snub.

I got one! A S&W 629 Classic. I traded a 7.5 inch Ruger with scope for it. The Ruger was just too much of a hassle to carry. Any deer within 60 yards or so is dead meat!:)

A couple of my best feeling/shooting handguns are 5".

I really like the length...

I always considered the 5" to be a perfect compromise between the 3" and the 7", not to mention the 2.5" and the 7.5".

Seriously, I have a fondness for the 5" revolvers and have several. I'd like to have a 5" Heavy Duty, a 5" 1926 S&W, and a 5" Official Police but the Smiths have gotten too pricey for me and I have so many Colts in both 4" and 6" I have a hard time talking myself into buying another just because of 1" of barrel difference.

That is a nice 45acp Joe:D :D

Sometimes in a hangun 1 inch can make a huge difference in balance. I love the balance and feel of a Colt SAA in 45 with a 4 and 3/4 inch barrell. No revolver feels better in my hand.

Anyone else a fan of 5" revolvers?

Heck yeah!!!
I refer to my 1970's 5" nickel Model 27 as my favorite revolver. Great balance, fantastic sight radius and superb grips. In my arsenal, at the range, it's only bested by my plain old 4" Model 15 with .38 wadcutters , but I still think it's the best compromise with heavier loads. You cannot go wrong with a 5" S&W!!

5 inch barrel

Yes, I think a 5 inch barrel is the perfect compromise between a 12 guage shotgun and nothing at all.

Opinions vary and while I think it's not the best at anything it is a very good choice as an all purpose gun. Carries almost as well as a 4 incher and shoots almost as well as a 6 incher.

My Girlfriend prefers longer than 5".

Yes she does because it helps tame the magnum revolvers and accuracy is enhanced by the longer sight radius. :D josh
