A lightly used Ruger would fit the bill nicely.
So would a used S&W Model 13 (blue) or 65 (Stainless) with fixed sights.
If you elect to try a Taurus, make sure it is a model that has the lifetime warranty.
One can sometimes find a used police or "corrections" Model 13 for about $250. Some of these may look well worn (holster wear) but are functionally good shooters.
Tip: When buying a wheelgun, look at the top strap just above the rear of the barrel's forcing cone. It may be dirty, but holding the gun in profile you should not see much erosion of the top strap. If you do, it shows the gun has been fired with a lot of magnum powered loads. Be sure to check the gun's timing, lock up and fore/aft cylinder movement (almost none is right).
