First time with my .40 Shield

Today I got to spend an hour at the range with my .40 Shield. I have owned it for about 2 months now and just shot it. I hadn't been able to get out to shoot since September.

Anyways, I have nothing but good things to say. I shot 150 of my own reloads through it without a single jam. I did not find the recoil to be anything major, but it made my dad's .22 revolver feel like a bb gun.

I shot the gun almost as well as my full size M&P .40. Even in rapid fire the gun is a lot more controllable than I expected.

I heard a lot of whining about the recoil online... I guess I should just reread that statement and laugh.

How do other .40 shield owners feel about them? What are you using for holsters?

I own the 9 mm, but my buddy has the .40 cal. Went shooting with him a couple months back and he let me shoot the thing. He didn't tell me it was a .40 and the recoil while a little stronger than my 9, was very manageable. Didn't seem to affect my accuracy at all.

I use N82 Tactical IWB holsters for both of my CCW guns. One thing I like about them is that the Classic version uses neoprene for the holster, so for example, the holster for my 1911 also accepts my Sig 229 or even my Beretta PX4 if I ever chose to carry it IWB. The one I use for my Shield also works for my LCP. Their Professional series uses a kydex holster and is specific to a style/model, so no interchangeability with that one. But it does have a retention feature, which the Classic does not.

I bought a Sig P239 .40 just to see how it shoots, and I was very surprised too.
I liked it so much, that bought another one too.

I bought a 229 for HD, range time, and to carry if I was to get a license. Now that I may be getting a license I am tempted to get a 239. If I do that I may keep my eyes open for a nice 226. I like DA/SA. I haven't shot a 239 .40 but due to its heft it should well handle the extra kick.

I had a 9mm Shield and traded for a 40 due to logistics. I am contemplating picking up the PC 40 Shield.

I'm not going to mention caliber here, just note that one can't fix a software problem with any hardware.

What are you talking about?

I have pistols in 40S&W and 9mm, the smallest 40 a Glock 27 which is manageable if you concentrate. I did go with a 9mm Shield because it's single stack so an extra round is desirable. Nothing wrong with the 40 though, I like having both calibers.

For me I think I probably shoot my .40 Shield better than a G27. I used to have a G27 but I sold it because I hated how it felt in my hand. I have pretty small hands, so a single stack magazine gun is more friendly to my grip.

Right now I'm thinking about getting a DA/SA .40. Looked at the CZ-P09 and was pretty impressed by the feel and the single action trigger... double action left some to be desired.

I first picked up the Shield .40S&W looking to replace my CM9 for backpacking as I prefer the .40, but wanted something lighter and smaller my G23. I first shot the 9mm Shield and love it, knowing the sharper .40S&W would be just fine with the Shield. I still ended up getting a 9mm Shield as the price was right and they are solid little guns. The .40 Shield is my favorite backpacking gun and just fits my needs perfectly.

I almost always use my HPG Kit Bag for concealed carry on the trail. I have a couple and I have more than a few hundred trail miles carrying the Kit Bag...perfect for backpacking.

For more conventional holsters, I just like Crossbreed's IWB holsters.
