First time selling on gunbroker

What should I expect?

I saw the other post in this general discussion forum but didn't want to hijack that thread.

I've only bought once through gunbroker and it's went fine.

I'm hoping to avoid any run around with buyers by being honest and attentive to questions.

What's the best way to ship a long gun? A handgun? (No, I'm not an FFL)

Hoping to get more money out of the guns I don't want to keep instead of trading them at the gun shop. I get decent prices there, but they always tell me I could get more online for them.

I haven't sold anything on GB, but the way I've had things shipped to me has been via an FFL. If you sell interstate, that will be required. Even if it weren't, it's not bad to have the weapon sent to a known shop, so there is no question as to whether it arrived, and so the buyer can check out its condition with (ideally) knowledgeable witnesses present.

As a buyer, I've opened my packages in the presence of my FFL, in case there were any defects or problems.

This came in handy with one custom job, that had arrived (as it turned out) with a damaged sear. (I inspected, cleaned, and shot the pistol at the FFL's range, and noticed a problem with the trigger. We took it down, and noted the problem. The custom shop actually called the FFL, later, to ask if I had modified their gun, and he was able to tell them that he had been there when I had taken custody, shot it, and found the problem. Warranty was honored.)

As a seller, if you are selling a good weapon, that kind of system could protect you against somebody who does actually mod the gun, then claim you sold him something defective.

Edit: I have sold or traded guns via TFL before. When I did that, for the sale, I had my FFL ship to his FFL. Net cost for the FFL transfer plus USPS was less than my cost would have been for UPS or FedEX plus the gas involved to get the gun to UPS or FedEx. For the trade, I gave my gun to my FFL, had him verify the other gun was with the FFL at the other end, and then both FFLs shipped the guns.

Ok, thanks. Didn't think of paying my FFL a fee to ship it for me. Will ask him about that.

Otherwise what are my options and costs for?

Handgun?

Long gun?
