First SG, FN police or 870 P

Hi folks, This being my first post, Let me start by saying Hi and thanks in advance for any input/help you folks can offer.

Well I was pretty much set on the FN police but after lurking here a bit it seems the the 870 is a SG of choice. I will use said SG primarily for HD and cost is a major concern. I found the FN on sale for 338.61 out the door, and can't really spend much more.

So I have searched the web a bit and I can't seem to find the 870 Police model for sale anywhere. I really would like to stay with a 18 in barrel and as much capacity as possible ie 7+1.

My question is then, pro's and con's of the FN vs the 870P and where can I find the 870P and what would I expect to pay for it.

Again thanks for any input/advice you guys could give.

Rick

The 870 Police is significantly more expensive than either the FN or the Express version of the 870.

The best way to get a Police model is to find a Remington FFL dealer who will special order one for you from a factory Law Enforcement distributor.

The price is usually near full list price, and starts around $450 or so.

The Express 870 is the same basic forged and milled steel framed gun as the Police.
It's Remington "budget" gun made to compete with the cheaper to make Mossberg's, Winchester's.
The savings on price comes from the less well polished and finished metal.

Since the FN is just a Winchester Model 1300 finished in Europe at the FN plant, it has the same good and bad points as the Winchester.

You might want to take a look at Remington's two Express home defense guns.
The model with the extended magazine would certainly meet your needs.

NO shotgun has the reputation that the 870 has for durability, reliability, longevity, and the number of accessories made for it.
