For caliber I want 7mm-08. I know I want a stainless steel barrel. Definitely want a bolt action. I've been reading reviews of the Tikka T3 stainless. I would like to know your opinion on the Tikka T3 stainless.

I want the rifle to hunt with, I'lll start with something deer sized, I will work up to Elk and maybe even a moose. I have learned from you good folks that a 7mm-08 can take anything in the lower 48 states.

Thank you for the help!

I own a Tikka t3 in 223 and it is a very accurate rifle, it is on the light side but then again I have a Remington model 7 in 7-08 which is the caliber your going to be getting and the model 7 is lighter than my T3 and the recoil is noticeable but not bad at all. Are you going to be reloading for your 7-08?

Do you already have a 22LR? If not, allow me to suggest you get two rifles, one of them being a 22Long Rifle that is otherwise as identical as possible to the centerfire. Then you can shoot the centerfire quite a bit and the rimfire quite a lot. It can only make you a better shot.

A 7-08 is a big step for a first rifle. I teethed on a .22LR as a youngster and now, some 50 years later, own everything thing from 17HMR's to a .338 WinMag. My favorites being the .308's and my 25-06. Starting with a .22LR you can practice a lot for very little coin and get your technique down. Then you can pick up your centerfire of choice. If you want a one gun fits all for the lower 48 the .308 will do the job as well. JMHO
