Hi,
This is my first post so hello everybody. I'm from NC. I recently purchased a smith and wesson model 629-4 for $500 with 50 magnum shells in the deal. So I'm just curious how good of a deal that was.

It's like a new gun almost. No scratches or dings or anything. The shells are just expensive down here now. I figure if I keep it, I'll definitely be investing in a reload kit.

List price for a new one is over a thousand dollars.
Real world price might have been a couple of hundred dollars less, before the big push and the current shortages.
Five hundred for an extra nice one sounds like a bargain, especially now.
Reloading this caliber is the only way to go.
Factory ammo is kind of scarce, even in the best of times, and ridiculously expensive.
.44 Mag was the first caliber that I learned to reload.
It's an easy one and very forgiving, too.
Enjoy your new iron.

Up here in Alaska that price would have been a couple hundred more. And a box of even the cheap .44 mag is going around 45-55 dollars. $45-50 for 20 rounds of the premium stuff so I would say you got the gun for 450... I'm a bit jealous haha.

OK, you have GOT to document the occasion with pictures.

I think you got a GREAT deal. And I'm not fond of Smith & Wesson revolvers. Too many parts inside. But having owned a K-22 and Model 28, I appreciate the trigger pull and workmanship. Truly fine revolvers. And I am fond of Stainless (though blued is so pretty, stainless is so practical). You got a steal of a deal.

When you want to look at reloading setups, check Kempf's gun shop online and these threads:
