Greetings and might I add what a nice site I have found, been lurking for a while and you all seem so nice. Onward and forward. I am trying to help a friend who bought a Rossi Single Shot .243 rifle for his grandson. We have mounted two new scopes, bushnells, and we can not even hit the paper. We have used a boresight and it looks great but when shot , oh my...been doing this for awhile but I am truly confused. any help would be great and Thanks in advance. The gun is tight, no loose anything.

Greetings

Hi Chuckster
I too live in Northern Michigan AND have a .243 on a Rossi. I have a 3-9X40 Tasco scope on mine and have no problem at 100yards. I bought it primarily for the ML barrel, which I am very happy with. I hate to state the obvious, but, how's your mounts? :)
Best of luck!

I would say check the bore and the barrel really well too. If you are bore sighting that scope, even with the mounts being cocked up, it will still go where it is supposed to. If the bore, rifling or barrel is messed up, it might be throwing the round out in to outer space somewhere. Rossi's aren't exactly great quality but they do good for the purpose you are describing. I would check the gun over with a fine tooth come and go from there, I don't think it would be a scope problem.

Might want to move the target closer - 25 yards - get on paper and then move the target back in stages.

Good idea on the target Don, that might help things. Let me know what the problem is, I'm interested in seeing what is up. I haven't heard of something like that before, you almost always get on the paper by boresighting...keep us posted, we'll do our best! :)

Get closer. Put up a bigger target. Until you catch a shot - several shots so you can see if it has any grouping capability - you don't know anything.

Who knows why the boresight doesn't work, just get a big enough target close enough to hit. And hope you have enough scope adjustment to zero. I have seen crooked barrels and misaligned scope mount holes that prevented it.

Thank you for the great replies :) I guess relooking at the obvious I will just start again. The weekend is here so perhaps I can try your suggestions. Look forward to hearing the results later. Again, thanks for the great responses.
