Hey guys, its been a while since I've been on here. This is actually my fathers old tag, and he's been off the forums for around 6 or 7 years now, so I figured I'd just use his old username.

Looking for my first AR. My father bought an Armalite AR-10 a while back and he loves it to death. I like it too, but there are some things I'd rather have, like my hearing. :)

I like the 7.62x51, but have a very hard time controlling the muzzle climb under rapid fire, especially with the carbine length gas system. The rifle is also too heavy for a go to carbine for HD or varmint control. Plus I would have a very hard time shooting indoors if I had to, I'd probably never hear again.

So, I'm going with a 5.56. Over the past 2 or 3 months Ive spent a lot of time discovering different AR manufacturers other than the common ABCD. I am amazed at the quality of some of these rifles.. LWRC, Daniel D, BCM, Noveske, Larue, Spikes Tactical.. they all look like awesome rifles.

I like what I am seeing from BCM, and have not heard ANYTHING negative about them. All the specs seem to be there and right for me.

Am I missing anything else? any other companies I don't know of? I almost bought a spikes tactical, but decided to go the BCM route instead, I just have a gut feeling the BCM's QC is more reputable.

Any and all recommendations are welcome. What do you guys think?

BCM is definitely a go.

BCM is more often used for those of us that prefer to build a rifle from scratch... although you can get pre-built rifles from them.

If you'd prefer to get one pre-built, Daniel Defense is a spectacular quality weapon at a reasonable price. I actually just bought a DDM4 V4 from Bud's for just a little over 1,100. There is a couple models cheaper and couple models more expensive, depending on what configuration you like.

I know a lot of it is just marketing propaganda, but I really enjoyed the DD torture test video.

Check it out here

For what it's worth, as I said, I just bought a DD... and my next custom build is going to be BCM.

I also have the Ruger SR-556C (which has been spectacular), and American Spirit Arms 10.5" side charger(my most expensive AR for sure... but it's currently in pistol configuration until I get my tax stamp back)

So you would go with the Daniel defense before, say, the BCM Recce 16? I was going to build a rifle in the beginning, but have just been having second thoughts about it. Buying everything separate, shipping really adds up. plus BCM uppers don't come with BCG's. I'm kindave weary of messing with the barrel nuts and/or removing or installing hand guards with my limited experience. Paying a little extra for a built rifle seems appealing.

If I was going to get a pre-built rifle, Daniel Defense is more appealing to me, but I don't think you'd be in a bad shape either way. The point for me was that the Daniel Defense rails (where DD really got their beginning) are expensive... so if you buy a complete DD rifle, you get the DD rail for a bargain, considering all of the other parts you're getting.

The DD rifles are abnormally light. I don't know how they do it, but their rails feel like a lightweight plastic(it's not.. it's aircraft aluminum, I believe).

But at like 6.1lbs... it's really nice. And they come with the Magpul MOE stock... the only upgrades I'm making to my DDM4 is throwing one of my optics on it and putting a Magpul MIAD grip on it.

All you have listed are awesome choices.

If I were you though, I would also look at these if you haven't already.

Primary Weapons Systems

These are some top of the line AR's. Have not had the pleasure of shooting one, but a very good firearms instructor and retired army sniper in my area is a big advocate of them. He still engages in some activities that force him to put his life on the line with this rifle. That say s a lot to me.
