Thats a nice one! How much does it cost to get a mount done down there? I was thinking about putting mine one the wall that I shot 2 days ago too but I sure wish it was cheaper.

Nice buck for sure.

Yea that looks like the same war wound I got from the muzzleloader scope in 2009. I fixed that problem this year by removing the rear sight and moving the scope forward by an inch or so.

Last buck I put on the wall costed me about $410.00 dollars. So the next wall mount will have to be a monster, before I get another one done.

Congrats on a great deer and good luck on getting the big one....

Regarding the costs, my suggestion is to shop around. In my area shoulder mounts for a deer like yours run from $375 to $800 depending on the shop. The lower cost guys are usually young and less well established or may take a long time to get your mount back.

Don't forget about European mounts. I have seen many that look great and they don't cost near as much.

war wound

I am glad i am not the only one that has done it. I missed a doe in the process of splitting my nose open. It was easy to tell what i did:D
The cost of the mount is around 280 for the fellow i am having do it. It can get as high as 450. I watched the big one for over thirty minutes wishing i had not shot the one i did. But i am not gready nor want to break club rules. So i get another chance fri. through sun and hopes to get a pig.
thanks for the replies Monty

Cowboy I don't know exactly where you are in Missouri, but I have noticed the best Taxidermist, are 1. always 7 or 8 months behind, 2. too expensive( it better be the buck of a lifetime. And 3. it seems like the price goes up substancially EVERY year.:o But when you find the dude that does the pretty work, it's really worth it, I think.;)

Hooligan, what I found were the guys who had been working for the 'best' guys for several years and finally went out on their own. Now since they been in the back room for years nobody knew who they really were and their prices were kept more reasonable in order to get established.

The other thing I found is the farther away from the cities you get, the more reasonable the prices become.:D

Oh, and I agree with you about the prices going up every year even with the young guys once they get their personal reputation established.

There used to be a fellar in schuyler county that was also a conservation agent, for what it's worth, he's the best I've seen in my 47 years of life..:) But I have never been able to kill something that would warrant me to use his services. ( and the wife says no) and as a sidenote to all you macho dudes that might interpret this the wrong way, I have been happily married for almost thirty years, and I would like to go another thirty with this same gal, so HELL YEAH she's the boss!!!:D

Hooligan,

Thanks for the info but Schuyler county is a long way from me. If you get that really really good one, we have a guy in St. Clair (Franklin county) that does a fantastic job. He worked for the best guy in the St. Louis area for many years and just went out on his own a couple years ago.

I understand the wife issue, but surely you have a man cave somewhere that you could put the deer of your lifetime.

Congrat's!! that is a nice buck. Your last pic looks like a low country log road. Great hunting all over the state, but the low country produces more quality deer than anywhere I have hunted.

you hit the nail on the head SC, loading up here in a minute to go back down for a weekend hunt. Hampton area.
thanks Monty

We used to hunt the Estill and Luray area when I was a kid. Fond memories of dog driving with the club my Dad was in. He handled a pack of hounds at the time. He hunted a few of the large plantations in the area as well. They are mostly commercial operations now.

Good luck on your return trip.
