First hunt of the season

Its been a busy fall, but I finally got the chance to go out for pheasant for a half--day this afternoon, with a good friend.

Bad news, we only saw one pheasant.

Good news, he flushed about 15 feet in front of me and angled to the side. Made an easy quartering shot.

Bad news, he fell into some mighty thick tangles. And I was in short sleeves. Good news, he was DRT, and I didn't have to look far. Wished for a machete, though.

He'll be supper tomorrow.

It was one of those great days. Weather was perfect. Short sleeves, as I said.

The leaves are in peak color. At one point, I was walking the edge of a copse of hardwoods. I looked up, and these two trees seemed to be blooming in gold and red. I stood motionless for, I don't know, 30 seconds or so.

Then a breeze came up, and the trees seemed to be raining fire.

And some guys stay home and watch football...
