First hog hunt with my new Marlin 336W

Well, I bought a new Marlin .30-30 and yesterday I took it on it's first hog hunt and was pleased to use it to bag a 250lb sow.

I shot at her at 150 yards on a slight downhill slope using 150gr Winchester Power Points. Hit her behind the shoulder and dropped her DRT where she was standing. Just Bang! Flop. That was it.

Not bad for the first time out with a new rifle :D

Keep it up

Nice pig, when isthe BBQ? Keep shooting them, wild hogs breed so fast you woulld be hard pressed to dent their numbers. And as direct competion with native species their numbers need to kept in check. Whack em and stack em.

Good shot, nice hog. I've used a 30-30 on many hogs, and it works very well. It doesn't ruin as much meat as the magnums.

Surely you jest. I've read many posts in the rifle forum that mentions how .30-30 just bounces off critters past 50 yards. :D

Obviously that hog was NOT an internet user or he would have known better. :p

Especially if you're not using that newfangled ammunition with the pointy bullets--and that's if you can even HIT something past 50 yards. You know how inaccurate those lever rifles are.

katana8869, are you sure that sow didn't just die of fright from the sound of the gunshot? :D

All kidding aside, congratulations, that's good shooting and a nice rifle. I had a 30-30, 336CS some years back and have always regretted trading it.

MYTH,Right???

Yes, I agree with you guys. A 30-30cal is not enough gun for anything by todays standards, All of those millions of deer, elk, moose, bear and so forth that have been killed with the 30-30 is nothing but A MYTH.

Nice rifle and hog! I shot a hog with the same spots and color out here in SO Cal at Ft Tejon Ranch, about twenty miles north of Los Angeles....

Good shooting! That is a great, classic rifle.

I take it you were high in the lungs, and made a spine shot, for the piggie to have dropped like that.
