First Handgun, XD-9 or CZ-**

Hey guys,
I've got a bonus coming from work. I mentioned this in another thread, and am thinking about getting my first handgun. I would only assume get the 9mm since I am a newbie, and it is cheaper to shoot. I have shot a couple of revolvers, and semi-autos in .22, but nothing in centerfire, except for a 45/70 wheelgun at the range one day.

So, I have been doing my research, and have come to find out I can get these guns for about the same price. I plan to use it for general plinking/home protection. Also, they, excuse me, WE, are trying to get a CCW law passed here in WI, so I may carry it as well. I have also given some thought about doing some amatuer IDPA, just for fun, to improve my shooting skills, or lack there of. I was thinking I really like the CZ, but there are so many variants I am lost. What do you think I should do?

Thanks!

CZ's are the best value going. I could go on all day about them, I love them. Great quality, great price, great accuracy, etc...

If you haven't found it all ready, there is a CZ forum at:

www.czforum.com

If you're thinking about buying one, stop there first. I think you'll be glad you did.

Let us know what you buy?

I both. I have the cz75b and a HS 2000 which is exactly the same as the XD. Both are very good guns, both are very reliable, both are accurate but I will give the edge to the cz. You really can't go wrong with either one. For home defense I personally would chose the cz because my wife would be using it too. I like the fact in the double action mode the cz has the heavier trigger to prevent accidents. Now if it was just me at home either pistol would be fine for the house. Hi caps are reasonable for both, there is a guy on the cz forum who sells factory cz mags for $38 and preban S&W model 59 15 round promags can be easily be converted legally to work in the XD. The promags work great and they are only $14 at cdnn investments. One other thing the sights better on the XD, they are easier to pick up quickly for me. See if you can rent both of them to shoot. Good luck. Mark

Jared:

Talk about a toss-up. I've got a CZ 75D PCR compact and an HS2000 (pre-Springfield --- exact same pistol as the XD 9mm). Along with my fullsize CZ 75B, these two are more accurate than any of my other 9mm pistols: SIG 225, two SIG 239s, Kahr P9, Kahr MK9, S&W 6906, TZ-99.

They are also identically sized, have the same grip profile (see picture) and are flawlessly reliable. Prices are comparable too -- between $400 and $425 each.

Both pistols are easily worth the money. But the best thing to do is to try out both of them. The PCR is a traditional DA/SA pistol, with a metal frame and a decocker. The XD employs a single action striker and has a polymer constructed frame. It has no decocker or traditional safety. Instead it has the Glock-like trigger safety and a 1911-style grip safety.

Either pistol should do you well, but I'd go with the one with which you are most comfortable. Not a bad dilemma to have... ;)

Take care. Marko

All info given is on the money. If you are considering the XD..check out the CZ100. Im not a pro with either gun but
have shot them both and are great sidearms. The XD has
the really cool safety type gadgets but the CZ100 is quite a bit smaller in comparison. The 40 is ported, has adjustable sights and a rail for those bright UFO lights and lasers.
Like I said, any gun mentioned will do you very well.
Shoot well

The CZ is full of neato gadgets to buy, some of which are actually useful: 15 round magazines, custom grips, etc. It's also inexpensive, reliable, and will eat just about any ammunition. Then again, the full-size 75 is pretty big compared to the XD, but there is the compact.

The XD sounds like an interesting gun. It's the latest and greatest new thing, but I haven't heard enough user reports on it to make me feel comfortable with it. My intuition tells me to treat it like a new car: never buy the first year of a new production model.

For someone with limited experience I would recommend the HS2000/Spring. XD. ]

I bought one for my wife in 9mm for IDPA. I love it so much I may start using it myself. She is doing great with it !

It is simplicity at its finest ! Very accurate, great trigger pull, great sights, very little recoil inspite of it being a light weight gun. No safeties to engage/disengage.

I have to say , its as good as any of my Glocks !

Go with the HS2000/Springfield XD !

CZ 75B SA

Gotta go with what bull said!!!!!

This is a fine weapon I highly recommend it. I got 700 rounds thru mine in 3 weeks and not one single problem. I am definetly a CZ FAN!!!!!

Thanks,
JD

my first gun was an HS2K. Very reliable, rarely gets dirty, accuacy is good (not great but good), very durable, safe (more safeties than the Glock). My first gun was the HS2K then i traded it for an AR. Best trade i ever made. IMHO both of them are good. i just chose the XD because it was my first gun that shoots 9's. Then i traded it for an AR which was the best trade i ever made because i wanted an AR, not because it was better but because i wanted to trade my HS2K for it because i wanted the AR. But the XD is very good gun, that rarely needs to be cleaned. I like the HS2K overall (CZ is great too, not good but great), because i had it before then i traded it for an AR which i really liked and in my opinion it was the best trade i ever made. understand...good no same to you.

MARKO, you really confuse me. I see one of your posts over here and think "I didn't right that." ;)

XD or CZ?? Either is a great choice. I'd go with the XD just because I think they are just plain great. I've had my HS2000 for over a year now and it's been just plain perfect.
