first grouping P-99

Sorry to brag but I was kinda shocked when I put my P99 on paper for the first time. WOW

Shot standing offhand from the marked 20 yard line using UMC 115gr FMJ. Wish I would have brought a few boxes of Federal match grade. From 20 yards, I couldnt see the holes apearing in the target, my jaw got exponentialy closer to the ground as I walked to the target. This has got to be the best freehanded, unsuported group I have ever shot..and from a combat style gun.
Now, can I do it again?
The entire Groups measured 1 1/8in....minus the first round flier 3/4in.

Carbon, welcome to the family of pleasantly surprised P99 owners.

You will be able to do it again. I like mine so much I made it my carry gun.

Holy cow. Which version, exactly, of the P99 is that? I must have one. Do you normally shoot nearly that well?

Doesn't matter which version. They all shoot like that.

Thanks guys. P99Man, I am doing the same thing. I bought the Limited to stick in my safe and hope it gets valuable. But with groups that great, coupled with its perfect size, its going to be my carry gun when I cant wear a heavy jacket and a Glock 20. It just disapears under an untucked polo or t-shirt.
Shmackey, I would consider myself a fair shot with a pistol. better than some but there are plenty of folk out there that make me look like a rank newbie. This is my best off-hand unsuported group with a combat style auto, but i can shoot groups like that from the bench with semi regularity. I do alot of shooting, but very little at paper, so I really cant say. I mostly shoot steel (plate racks and popers) or skeet stuck in the berms, water filed 1/2 gallon milk jugs are my favorite. I cant see bullet holes past about 10 yards on the outdoor range and instant feed back really helps your shooting. Not that there is anything wrong with bulseye type shooting, but dont discount plinking. An instant hit or miss lets you know right then if you were doing something right or wrong. This little thing was also reaking havok on the 100 yard 8in gong. My 10mm Glock is still the king in that area though.
BTW, I got the "Limited for the year 2000" model. Comes in a nice case with some moderate laser etching. Handsome little gun. And a real shooter to boot. I just noticed that I outshot Deiter..the lucky German that gets to testfire all the P99's before shipping. They included a signed target. I also noticed they compleatly cleaned it before shiping. Test fired 5 shots and not a speck of powder or coper fouling to be found. Thought that was kinda neat...most companys just wipe the residue off.

Carbon, I carry mine the same way. I ordered a CQC/s from Lou Alessi and carry outside the waistband and it still just disappears under a polo shirt.

If you like instant feedback try some action drills with it. I have shot some IDPA with mine and the P99 is a good handler too. One of the drills we did at the last match I went to was the "groucho walk" shooting 5 shots advancing and then 5 shots retreating inside the 2-15 yd lines. I went 10 for 10 on the 8" center of the IDPA target.

My pistol was spotless too. I didn't even know it had been test fired. I found the target when I pulled out the manual. I gave ol' Dieter a run for his money too.:)

Glocker, I got the target off the internet from one of those "print your own targets" pages. I can e-mail the file to you if you like, I have some other ones too. They are really good if your eyes arent so good. Just e-mail me and I'll send 'em to ya.
I just love action type shooting. The first time you try shooting non bullseye style you realise just how unnatural shooting accurate while moving can be. My gun club has a really trick "jeff Cooper" bay with lots of fake door, tables, barrels, plywood cut-out cars, etc. For those that havent tried the 'ol shoot and scramble, give it a try. just be extra wary of muzzle disciplin and general safety. Statistics show almost every gunfight involves some deal of running around. popers and steal IPSC targets are great for shoot and move drills. I have a whole -quick doble tap, sprint for cover, pause for quick double tap, repeat- drill worked into my regular practice. Kinda hard to sort out where the hits and misses came from after the fact when just using paper. If you really want to get "tactical" you can always try shooting WHILE on the move. Thats the real humbler. A simple but fun drill to show just how different it feels is to set up multiple bad guys and shoot them walk forward at a normal pace in a low crouch . I cant remeber who (thunder ranch?) but one of the big gun gurus teaches a , rock to the rear while drawing manuever where you fire the first shot from hip level and advance to the rear while bringing the gun the rest of the way up, all the time back pedeling. Hard to get down to where you can hit 100% at differnt ranges (well its ment for contact range..but still) but it seems like a good thing to have in your bag of tricks.
