First day at Range with my 45-70 Remlin

Wasn't sure if I'd like the 22 inch but scoped up. It done so so with Remington factory on the left. Using IMR 3031 and a 300 grain Hornady HP it was great with reloads. Two 3 shot groups at a 100. Reloads in the bullseye.

Wendy, that's pretty good.
There are so many rifles that the accuracy can be improved on by loading to the individual rifle's specs instead of a universal "fit's all" factory load. Especially with 45-70.

I've really thought a lot about getting a good 45-70 or 45-90 lately. They are really expensive for the one I want.

I haven't bought factory loads for over 40years except as collectors items but you just justified one of the reasons why myself and many others reload all our ammo instead of buying it.
But...http://www.buffaloarms.com/Pedersoli_Sharps_it-994422.aspx?CAT=3940

It's wearing me down.

At $45.00 a box I couldn't afford to shoot it if I wasn't reloading for it. I did buy a box of factory to zeroe it in but the rest all be reloads. I've always wanted an old trapdoor and if I can find one I know I can load for it safely. I haven't seen one in a long time. Before computers pawn shops were a gun owners magic house. Not anymore.

Keep looking for that Trapdoor. They come available every once in a while.

Good shooting with the Rem. Nice group. With some work I'll bet you get them all touching.

A week ago, there was a trapdoor in a gun shop I was in near home. Don't recall the price. They also had a rolling block in 45/70.

PM me if you're interested in the name and number for the shop.

H&R made a couple of trapdoor carbines some years ago. There was a standard model and a more elaborate "Officers Model". They were shooters, where as shooting originals inasmuch as they would have collector value, does not seem prudent.
