Firing hammerless from pocket

Anyone with experience firing a hammerless or hammer shrouded revolver from inside a pocket or handbag. Did the garment catch fire or simply smolder?

Anythoughts on the 7 shot S&W 242 hammerless L frame? How about the old Bianchi "Lightning" shrouded grips for K frames?

Thanks

Hi Rupert!

Welcome to TFL!

I've fired a M38 S&W from the pocket and the three cheap coats I sacrificed (Goodwill stuff) smouldered but didn't flame up. No experiance on purses. (just not a 90's sort of guy)

Why is the old Jerry Lee Lewis line, "....goodness, gracious great balls of fire...." running through my mind right now?

Sorry Ruppert, welcome to TFL. :D

Gunslinger

We live in a time in which attitudes and deeds once respected as courageous and honorable are now scorned as being antiquated and subversive.

I tried it once in an old Air Force Greatcoat using an S&W .38 spl. The coat caught fire and I burned my knuckles with the flash.

I will reserve this method for the most dire of circumstances.

This is quite a subject but as you know Gunslinger has a theory or response on everything. You would just have to get to know this one to see his every day humor, I'm going to ask him if he ever shot a gun off in his pocket and see what his response from it was, I bet it wasn't "GREAT BALLS OF FIRE"

One of the gun magazines had an article about firing a revolver from inside a pocket. The coats used were pretty well "ruent" after the shot. None caught fire as I remember, but the pocket area was pretty well shreded to the point that there was nothing that would stay in what was the pocket.

Are you guys trying this at an indoor range? I have a hard time believing that the average R.O. condones this.

Anyway, what were you aiming at? Did you have a target set up or were you just firing to test it out?
