Fireworks Kill

Well every year we are reminded how dangerous fireworks are. This year has been no exception. Local news reports here on Long Island reported that a 34 year old man was decapitted by a "mortar' yesterday night.

I am unable to find any links to this yet as it is still too early for the local papers.

The radio reported that the individual was lighting off a "mortar' and when the thing didn't go boom he looked down the barrel to see why! It went off and blew off part of his head.

I remember when I was in Mortar training in OCS at Ft Benning the sergants told us, "If it doesnt go boom DO NOT LOOK DOWN THE BARREL."

Apparently this guy was not a professional.

The four rules should also apply to pyrotechnic devices.

Uuhhhhh.

Well. If that's all the more sense you've got, then something somewhere is bound to kill you. Reminds me of a guy I knew who worked weekends at the range. According to him, about 5% of people will encounter a hangfire or misfire and, you guessed it, turn the gun around and look RIGHT DOWN THE MUZZLE.
 
Nature never intended that man to breed. Sorry, but he was a genetic dead end. As somebody said, the only surprising thing is that he went out in such a semi-spectacular manner--SOMETHING was bound to get him sometime, perhaps when his lawnmower blade got stuck and he reached underneath to "fix" it.....
 
Yep, in Des Moines Ia kids were lighting fireworks and throwing them from a moving vehicle.

Fireworks came back into suv [wind blown?]ignited other fireworks still in vehicle, truck continues on - crashes [on fire],= 1 killed, 4 other critical condition....

This time around I had a number for mortars myself. Abut 24 to shoot off. At no point did I EVER have my head over the barrel when a load was in the chute. Lit or not lit I always lit the fuse while none of my body was covering the mortar tube. We had a great time and no accidents!

I think that everyone should be given a live grenade at age 14. The truly stupid will remove themselves from the gene pool.
