Firestorm

I have heard that the Firestorm 1911 clone is made by Llama. The price is great but is it a total POS ? Has anyone had any experience with these guns?

No answer for you, but a hearty greeting to TFL!

I've heard that they are servicable, but a bit crude. Machining marks visible, some parts kind of rough, that sort of thing. What do you expect for the price?

Forgot to say, no direct experience myself.

I do believe that Firestorm is the merger of Llama and Bersa.

If Llama's handguns are any indication of what to expect out of Firestorms 1911s, I can tell you that I am content with my Mini-Max .45acp for the most part. More accurate than a $259 NIB 1911 has any right to be, and never a malfunction from the 300+ rounds put through it.

However, mine does have a nasty habit of ejecting the spent shells directly rearward, some zoning in on my forehead (an ejector problem, most likely a quick fix). Also, mine exhibits heavy machine tool marks inside, but as far as I can tell, it is strictly cosmetic, having no effect on the function.

Overall, I believe Llama to be good deal from my personal experience. Some may tell you otherwise, as it's a hit and miss type scenario. Perhaps info from other Llama or Bersa owners can shed some additional light on your search.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input everyone.. sounds like for the price the Firestorm might be worth giving a shot....was that a pun? :D

Llama and Bersa merged? I know several Bersa owners who are very happy with the quality of workmanship.

If the pistol is at a local shop, ask if you can field strip it and check the build quality yourself (or ask a knowledgable friend to help). Ask if you can exchange it if there's a problem. That should cover you.

I don't think Bersa and LLama have merged into one company. They have, though, partnered in the distribution and marketing of their products here in the US under FireStorm.

Seems that those who own one like em and those that don't own one classify them as junk. Like the Kel-Tec, the Firestorm does have a lifetime warranty now. If they honor it like Kel-Tec does then there shouldn't be much problem. Sure can't beat the price.

I call them junk because I've owned a Llama(for a very short time)-you could aim it at your temple to shoot yourself and you'd miss. That is,if you could get it to feed and chamber a round.

I rented a brand new Firestorm at the range, fired it 23 times.Had 6 FTFs.After 23 shots,it decided it was too tired to generate enough energy to slam the hammer down hard enough to ignite a primer.

Junk.

I don't hate Llama (Firestorm) as much as the last poster, but my experience with the MiniMax .45 was frustrating at times. I was relatively accurate with it, but it would jam with the spent shell sticking straight up from time to time. Sometimes every other magazine, and sometimes less. And at least half the ejected shells of every magazine hit me between the eyes. That was frustrating also. After about 5 months and several hundered rounds I ended up pawning it. I replaced it with a Taurus M44 revolver. And though Taurus has it's detractors also, I'm much happier with it than I was the Llama. I just didn't trust my life with mine anymore because I was never sure whether it would jam, or hit me between the eyes instead of the BG. I want a good 1911 again someday, but I will look for a good used Springfield instead. I've seen them for not too much more than a new Llama.

I have only shot 2 Llamas..one mini 45 (10 rndr) and a two tone full size...the mini was actually really cool and worked great......
Little tiny 45 that kicked like a little tiny 45...:D , the other was brand new and so was the shooter....he was bitching about how it wasnt accurate at all. He had me shoot it and I liked it, it did shoot accurately ...the trigger was heavy to pull and broke suddenly...but I didnt think it was bad. Both were dependable and accurate for the ENTIRE 10 minutes I shot them...LOL
For what its worth..Shoot well
