Fire Dragon ported hunter barrel for Glock 20

UPS finally made a delivery after a week of heavy snow storms here and I got my barrel finally. I had googled and found quite a bit of negative feedback regarding fit, finish and chambering of round so I was a bit concerned.

So far--most of this seems unfounded--finishing is excellent and is a true drop-in requiring nothing additional (at least so far). Tolerances seem very precise--there is virtually no play at all with the barrel at rest inside the slide and same when I drop a round into the chamber.

Of course I'm itching to get some lead down the barrel--but the place I shoot is under 3 to 4 feet of snow so I might have to wait a bit. With luck, I should be getting in my powder tomorrow and can start reloading.

I assume you are talking about EFK Fire Dragon brand barrels. I've owned one for my Springfield XD 4" V-10 9mm. I had no fitment issues, but I DID blow the port out while firing at an indoor range. I only noticed this after I saw a pattern of metal shavings spraying out of the front of the gun. Kind of scary. It could have been a stuck squib load or simply quality control form EFK. Otherwise, I had no other issues with the barrel, and it was pretty similar, but not as effective as the original factory porting, which is simply a feature of the EFK's design, which is extended porting instead of internal porting (within the length of the slide).

After I blew out the barrel, I sent it back into EFK and had them replace it with a threaded barrel, which was oversized in every dimension that engaged with the pistol. I was angry when I got it back! However, having an oversized barrel is not a bad thing, I've learned. It just means you have to pay money to a gunsmith to get it fitted and assuming a quality gunsmith, that means you will have a very accurate barrel in the end. I am not sure if all EFK products are like that or just the threaded ones or if you are just rolling the dice every time you buy an EFK product. The fitted threaded barrel shoots well with no issues.

Sounds like your bore might have tapered down too much or somehow got a bullet strike at the ports? I called EFK and the barrel turned out exactly as they said it would--true to tight match-grade tolerances but might need some chamber polishing--which I did and now the .401 lead cast loads chamber fine. Of the stock Glock barrel, the Lone Wolf and the Fire Dragon--the FD seems to have the most precise fit and finish--though the LW is very good too. I still haven't had a chance to get out since we're under 3 to 4 feet of snow--but I have plenty of reloading to do anyway.
