Fiocchi vs.Silvertip

Kentucky Rifle

I have some Glocks that are a joy to shoot, however I find myself carrying a North American Guardian or Kel-Tec P-32 most often. I know, I know, bigger is better. I do carry a Glock sometimes, but in the summer, a pocket pistol is the way I go. My P-32 feeds absolutely anything. I keep it loaded with Federal Hydra-Shoks. My Guardian is a little more ammo sensitive and wont feed the Hydra-Shoks reliably, so I use Silvertips or Fiocchi FMJ. I read some good things regarding the Fiocchi hollow points, so yesterday I went to the gun shop to buy some. To my surprise, the shop owner told me that he no longer carries Fiocchi ammo. I asked why and he said that he had a lot of customers complain about the Fiocchi. The Fiocchi FMJ did just fine in the little Guardian but today, as I rotated mags, I reloaded with Silvertips.
Has anybody had any kind of trouble at all with the Fiocchi? (In any caliber)

I like Fiocchi both FMJ and JHP, I use a fair amount in 9mm and .45. .32 is a diferent matter, though. The FMJ is fine in my Tomcat, but it does not like the JHP for some reason (it shoots Silvertips, Fed H/S, Gold Dots, just fine. I think it's because it's semi jacketed and it just doesn't like the exposed lead tip. HTH, M2

I also carry a Keltec P-32 and have shot both FMJ and HP's made by Fiocchi. Both have functioned just fine in this piece as has about anything else I've shot in it.

If your dealer doesn't carry it , try Cheaper Than Dirt at 1-800-421-8047, Centerfire Systems at 1-800-950-1231, or TAPCO,Inc. of Kennesaw, Ga.(don't have their number).

I carry the Fiocchi hollow points in my P-32.

Good Luck,

Dave

I've not had any problems with Fiocchi 9x19 nor 9x18. The only JHP that my little Makarov will cycle perfectly is the Fiocchi. From a seat of the pants comparison, it seems that Fiocchi is loaded hotter than US ammo.

Several of my fellow officers (& I) have fired lots of Fiocchi FMJ in various calibers with no problems. No first-hand knowledge of the JHP. I tend to like Fiocchi better than Sellier & Bellot; although the later is less expensive, it is generally dirtier.

I will never use fiocchi again. I have put it through both of my .40's, and it caused a loading jam almost every other round. IT all most cost me passing my instructors test the first time around. Fortunatly, practicing clearing has made me very efficient at clearing jams,(and the laser sight didn't hurt.) I used the FMJ, and no matter what I did it would not feed consistently. Execept for my own early re-loads, I have never had a feed problem in either my Taurus, or P-9 until that ammo. If it feeds fine for you, then go for it, but I would never risk it as carry ammo, and will not even use it as practice ammo again, unless I want to practice clearing jams again.

.40 seems to be a bad choice in the Fiocchi line-up. I have heard a few complaints. My experience is limited to 32/9/45 ball all of which worked 100% with good accuracy and not much grime.

I just finished 1K of Fiocchi FMJ in .40 - in my Glock 23 it produced frequent jams. I've switched to Federal for practice and am having zero problems.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions about the Fiocchi .40. I have gone through several thousand rounds of 9 and .45, which I found very reliable and accurate, but I have not been able to shoot the .40 well out if my sig 229 or glock 23.

Guy's,
Thanks for the responses. Just as the gun shop owner said, some people have had trouble with Fiocchi. I'm not going to use it anymore. Silvertips work just fine in my Guardian, so that's what I'll keep it loaded with. Fortunately, the Kel-Tec P-32 likes all brands of hollow points I've tried. I'll continue to keep it loaded with Federal Hydra-Shoks.
By the way, sometimes I shoot a mag of Silvertips and then a mag of Hydra-Shok's with the P-32. The Hydra-Shok's seem to be the hotter load. The little pistol feels much more "snappy" with the Hydra-Shok's.
