Recently at the range, it was very cold. Shooting my Howa in .223 I got two hang-fires with Fiocchi Extrema .223 50 gr V-Max. Both shots went low by about 2 inches.
Hang fire number 1: The first of the hang-fires was a "click-boom-click" (almost as if the firing pin came back and dropped a second time). The case had soot all down the side. No pierced primers, no smoke coming out of the gun... The soot stopped at the case head. No pressure signs, other than perhaps low-pressure not sealing the neck.
Hang fire number 2: The second hang-fire was a "click-boom". The case and everything looked fine.
Another 30 rounds from the same box went perfectly—as is usual. I have noticed that Fiocchi has changed their head-stamp. It used to say "GFL" and now says "Fiocchi". I have also noticed when I've reloaded the GFL cases that the flash-hole is often off center. I have not yet reloaded the cases with the newer head-stamp.
Has anyone had this with Fiocchi Extrema .223 50 gr V-Max? I've shot it for years and never had an issue. It's been my favorite economy round.
