Finishing an 870 Ex wood stock with tung oil?

I just picked up an 870 Ex 20G Youth from Wally World for the "rolled back" price of $238. To my pleasure, the stock is nice and dark walnut, not blonde like most of the ones I see on display. It appears to be stained but not finished with anything else. I was thinking of finishing it with tung oil for looks and for some added protection. Is this advisable? Will it go well in the chekered area? Thanks for any advice.

The burlap just gives it a nice buffed finish.
try the oil finish first, if you like it that way you don't need to buff it. I've buffed the stocks I have oiled.

that new Remington has a "matte oil" finish from the factory... (if it IS new)

yoiu can "gloss it up" with Tung oil... (or whatever oil you like) but be aware that it Is oil finished...
