whats the deal, keep reading about the bad finishes on sig pistols. but i dont know what the whole deal is, whats wrong with it?

thanks once more.

Guerilla 1138, Early production Sig's thru
some of today's "standard" finish'es are
very beautiful, but real thin. Henceforth,
the coming of blackened stainless steel
slide's; mounted on the aluminum alloy
frame's. In the past, Sig looked at the
overview as being a Para-Military Combat
Firearm; thus their blued weapons weren't
finished as nicely as some of the later
model's. The K-Kote finish leaves a lot
to be desired, as well. There are some
report's of the K-Koted firearms "peeling"
after a lenghty duration or constant use.
Their two-tone models are extremely beautiful; but I understand Sig now offer's
a finish that is most durable? I can't
remember the proper name; but it is suppose
to be superb!!! :)

Caution: A word to the wise, keep Hoppe's No.9 solvent away from the exterior of Sig
firearms. I know of one instance, whereas
all the blueing was removed from a P220;
with normal cleaning!!! :(

Ala Dan: I think something was wrong with that Sig's blue finish. I have a Sig from 1988 or 89 and the finish is still in good shape. My standard cleaning procedure is to scrub the entire gun inside and out with a toothbrush dipped in Hoppe's No 9 before spraying it out with carb cleaner. I say Hoppe's No 9 is fine for cleaning older Sigs.

Taco, You may be exactly right regarding that particular Sig!!! :) That happened while that
kunckle-head was at the police academy located in Montgomery, AL.; whereas most
anything would not be out of the ordinary.
I do believe that some other substance made
contact with the surface of that firearm;
thus causing the aforementioned problem?
I too own older Sig's, and even when I was
using Hoppe's No.9; I didn't have a problem.
The information I posted orginally came from
a senior gunsmith at SigArms Exeter, N.H.
plant. Anyway, I have switched over to using
"Break Free CLP" and have been totally satisfied; using it exclusively for all
practical purpose's. :)
