Finger Rest on Sig 232

I carry the Sig 232 in an ankle holster occassionally and have noticed that the magazine's finger rest tend to poke up through the pants. Can I remove the finger rest from the magazine in order to make it flush with the grip? Are there any disadvantages in this?
