Having tried quite a few different rifles over the past four years, I finally came to realize I have little interest in killing small furry or feathered critters at long ranges. I also learned that nothing floats my boat like exceptional accuracy. As a result, I am completely revisiting my small rifle collection. Three of my high quality varmint rifles are for sale, with the cash to be applied toward benchrest target rifles.
I already have my first serious centerfire target rifle. It is the left handed BAT action 222 Rem. I have shown off on Benchrest Central, Accurate Shooter and Rimfire Central. I call it the Haydon BAT 222 because it was put together by Russ Haydon. Russ and I took it to my home ranges twice to break in the barrel and I went out with it for the third time yesterday. It's accuracy is beyond what I thought possible for me to achieve. Now I am convinced it is what I was looking for all the long. Here it is:
My point is it took experiences with a variety of rifles before I truly understood what I was looking for. I got into shooting as just one more activity to keep my aging mind and body active. I started with a Remington 550-1 as an introduction to shooting. Within two years I needed to buy a gun safe to hold my growing collection. By buying an selling a variety of rifles, with different intended uses, I learned a lot about rifles and myself.
Sure I will probably lose money in the selling of what I have. So be it. What I have gained in experience, new friends and the pleasure of learning a new activity is well worth the cost.
Though I will be listing the three rifles on this site, this is not a sales pitch as much as an encouragement for all to be brave, try new things and remember:
"We don't stop playing because we get old. We get old because we stop playing."
