Financial Lows Forceing You to Sell Your Guns?

I have noticed more and more gun sales by Private Party Sellers on the internet auction sites. And with such low starting prices that it seems the seller is either desperate for cash, or very desperate for cash.
Are there people sacrificing and selling their firearms these days?

I say sacrificing, because it also seems there are not a whole lot of buyers neither. With less and less bidders, auction sales are ending up in low closeing prices.
Thus, I say Sacrificing. And I do feel for those folk that took losses.

Last week I was bidding on a gun.....
A Smith & Wesson Model 10 Blue 2" In Excellent Condition. It looked Sweat... It closed at $342.00

I lost it, only due to I having to be at work with no computer. I was madder than a hungry woodpecker trapped in a steel mill.

Is today's economy made you sell some of your prize firearms? Or are you cutting back on other things and holding on.?
Sometimes I feel like kicking my sponging girlfriend to the curb.

I had to sell off a large part of my collection a few years back, and am still missing some of them. I really had no choice at the time, and I know it had to be done, but it hurt. Especially giving up that Kimber....

No. I can't foresee selling off comparatively low dollars items which I own free and clear just so I can buy a few days more time.
There are ALWAYS jobs available in one form or another. I'd rather work 30 hours to make the $250 I'd get trying to desperately sell a $500 gun... A $500 gun that's going to cost me $500 to replace.

That's what I call throwing good money after bad.

Have to agree; Not sure what it means !!

I also do a bit of tracking and have noticed the same thing and seems to have really been noticeable this past month. I don't think that folks are taking too many losses but certainly not getting the money that some items use to bring. I have also noticed a drop in our Gun Show attendance. Seems that folks are hanging on to their guns and money. The working stiff is really getting pinched. ..... ;)

No....can liquidate other assets if it gets that bad. Thank goodness kids are all raised, educated, and out of the house. Just me and the Mrs to worry about now.

No sense in selling what I cannot afford to replace. Average guns will bring at best 75-80% of their worth. I look at it as, the guns are paid for, not costing anything to sit in the safe and I know purchased at much less expensive prices when compared to todays prices. I don't see firearm prices falling to 5-10-20 year past prices when time comes to replace them.
The only handgun I own that would bring more than I paid for it is my Python and I know I cannot replace the one I own with a equal quality one for the price paid in 1981.
Also have a 61 year old HD M/C in the garage. Can't buy that back for what I paid for it in 1975 so it can sit and rest peacefully in the garage (free of cost to me)

Well if it comes to putting food on the table or starving, what's a man to do? You get rid of the wife and keep the guns, you can always get a new wife  Besides, the guns will hold their value longer, feed them as much as you want, don't waste water cleaning them, will speak when you press their button and they will always look good with age :D

Even though my guns do get "hot flashes". I've never had one get PMS and go off on me?

When I buy me a gun, it's for richer or poorer, better or worse, until death do us part. Now that's a lasting marriage...

Like others, I had to do it once, you know, d-i-v-o-r-c-e. Well, now the kids are grown, the ex is just a dim memory, and my collection is growing. I hope that never happens again.

When the going gets rough; sell the toys

I feel that the OP, is talking about folks that are having financial troubles. Times are on the far side of rough and traditionally, the first thing to go, is the toys. Now, I never refer to or consider a gun a toy but when push comes to shove, they become so. I have been thar a time or two. Most gun owners that are in a bad spot, are higrading their collection as well as other "toys". Some can't wait for the promise of 2012 and are selling now. Others are spending less and still hanging on to their guns. We all have to make our own measure and in our own time.... ;)

Not me.
However on our local ksl.com classifieds the firearms section has gone form a few pages per day to easily 10-12 pages of firearms in both the handgun and rifle listings a day.
I'm just waiting for a Steyr GB with a couple mags to show up so I can help alleviate their financial suffering.(they had one on there i'm still kicking myself for not buying)
