I get about 3-4 "gimme $" letters per week from the various entities within NRA. Unfortunately, none are tax deductible as charitible organizations, until now.
Apparently it has been around for 10-years or so, but evidently isn't pushed as hard as the other "programs". If you are like me, and desire to have your RKBA cake & eat it too, then check out: NRA Foundation[

Mykl, NRA cannot use any money from the NRA foundation for lobbying. It is used only for gun safety and related programs. Don't get me wrong - it is a great cause and encouraging safety helps protect all of our rights; but the NRA still needs the non-tax deductible donations to continue lobbying (especially since we didn't get the free pass on taxes and lobbying that MMM did).

The friends of the NRA are the grassroots people who support the NRA foundation. All funds raised are put into a trust fund. Only the earnings on the trust funds are used to support the shooting sports. Some of the items supported by these funds are, the Eddie Eagle safety program, Jr. Shooters program, repair of ranges, support of ladies hunts, firearms exhibits and a host of other worthwile causes.

One of the things we really need to do is to see that our young are exposed to the shooting sports and that they have a place to do this. This is the main intention of the Endowment fund. As one of our founders put it, we need to teach others how to shoot, especially when young.

For the long-term good, this is even more important than the poltical lobbying arm. So please if you hear of a Friends of the NRA dinner near you, go. If you don't have one in your area, please start a group to put one on. Our groups, in Northern CA have raised over $100,000 in the past year for this cause. The dinners are fun. Good food and lots of guns and NRA stuff to buy. They usually include live auctions, raffles, drawings etc.

the People or Government.
