FInally, New SRH .480

Well, with a little more wheeling and dealing, the local dealer gave me a price on a SRH, 7 1/2, .480 Ruger.

Bought the beast Sunday. I am hoping to be able to shoot it this weekend. I am setting a simple range, about 100yds, on our back 40 (we have some acreage).

The gun handles wonderfully, and I like SA the trigger a lot more than my .44 RH thanks to the Security Six type of springs.

The gun was used, but did not look as if 20 rounds had been fired!

I'll keep you guys posted.

Again, thanks to all that responded to my earlier 'price check' request.

Good deal. I anxiously await your report. I have been thinking about getting something along that line. Probably will get the .454 though. I have fired the .454 out of a SRH. Recoil was manageable with a little practice, but the first dozen shots definitely told me to watch my technique.
I just got back last night from a couple weeks in Ohio. That .480 should make a dandy whitetail gun.

I think you will like that new revolver. The 480 seems like it would be an excellent cartridge and God knows the SRH is a suitable platform. The only thing that makes me hesitant is the availability of components for it.

mobias your fears can be laid to rest, at least as far as bullets go. Leadhead has added a 355gr .475" WFN, gas checked bullet to their lineup. At $41/250, $70/500 they're a lot cheaper than anyone else I've seen for these bullets. The cost of bullets was one thing keeping me away from this caliber, now I won't have to resort to casting my own when ever I get one.

When I talked to Tommy at Leadhead earlier this week he said they had this in stock and ready to go out, better buy some while you can, at this price he's sure to get swamped as soon as the word gets out.
