Finally!

My new 4" Rossi Plinker has been delivered. :D

Please note this is not a rag-session on Buds Gun Shop,,,
They delivered within the 10 working day guarantee.

I placed the on-line order on the morning of the 24th,,,
So with all of the holiday days and weekends,,,
It took 19 days to get to me in Oklahoma.

But I just checked and it has been delivered,,,
The Evil Pawn Shop Guy signed for it.

So the last of my Self-Santa Christmas gifts is in,,,
Now I can start on the holster for the little gem.

I have been very happy with my Rossi 462. The Plinker is built on the same action. I considered grabbing one of those when Buds had them in stock, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy another rimfire revolver. Let us know your thoughts, and a range report once you pick it up. I'm especially interested in what black finish Rossi is now putting on the blued guns. Is it still shiny bluing, or the matte black that everyone(Taurus included) is using now.

I'll pick it up this evening after work,,,

I'll pick it up this evening after work,,,
But I won't get to the range until at least Saturday.

That may not happen either,,,
It's supposed to be cold, wet, and windy here in Okie-Land.

But, I'll surely give a "fondle report" as soon as I get home with it.

This is the handgun I finally decided on,,,
To pair up with my Savage MK-IIF.

I fired a few rounds through one early last year,,,
It wasn't a S&W but I hit as well as with my model 63.

Pics will be taken.

Hello Targa, I have a question for you,,, and Pics.

Hello Targa:

My new Plinker has a matte black/blue finish,,,
It almost looks like it was parkerized.

I've been told it is blue over bead blasted metal,,,
But it sure looks like matte black to me.

I fired one about 8-9 months ago,,,
I would have sworn that one had a normal blue finish.

Does your Rossi Plinker have the same finish as this one?

I'm probably just having a "senior moment",,,
But I would have bet a $20.00 bill on the finish being normal blue.

Here it is side by side with a 4" Charter Arms Pathfinder.

Using snap caps I dry fired it several hundred times last night,,,
I don't have a trigger scale so all I can say is,,,
The trigger ain't bad at all.

I really like the fiber optic front sight,,,
This will be a good match for my Savage Mk-IIF rifle.

Total cost from Buds (with extended warranty, shipping insurance, and transfer fee) was $323 and change.

I'm happy with it,,,
But I would have sworn it was blue steel.

Now I gotta come up with a good name for her.

No, both mine and my dad have the blued finish but not the matte finish like yours. Very interesting, I like the matte finish though, looks good.

Plython,,,?

Plython,,,?

With that ribbed barrel,,,
She does have a Python-ish look to her.

That should get the Colt fanatics howling. :p

I was thinking of something to do with "dark",,,
because of her matte black finish.

She is from Brazil though,,,
Perhaps I should Google female Portuguese names.

I have a name for her,,,

I have a name for her,,,
Actually, it worked out perfectly.

I was looking for a "dark" name to match her finish,,,
So I Googled Female Portuguese names,,,
This one jumped right out at me.

Elvira

"Elvira is one such example of a female given name of Gothic (Iberian) origin, meaning “all true, trustworthy” from the Germanic elements “al” (all) and “wer” (true)."

It's official,,,
I'm naming this little beauty Elvira. :D

Aarond, the reason I asked about the finish is because Taurus has gone to the matte finish, since they own Rossi, I assumed that has happened there also. I have read its because of the salts used in the bluing process being bad for the environment. The Rossi 461 revolver used to have a gloss blue finish, but now the pictures look like a matte finish.

Your new Plinker looks like a great revolver. I'm sure it will provide many years of fun.

Hello weblance,,,

Your new Plinker looks like a great revolver. I'm sure it will provide many years of fun.

I hope so,,,
I'll find out soon.

Come snow or freezing temps,,,
I'm going to take her to the range this weekend.

I need to function test her and see how she performs,,,
Besides, I can't stand having an unfired handgun laying around. ;)

Elvira and her paired rifle,,,

Elvira and her paired rifle,,,
The rifle is a base model Savage Mk-IIF.,,,,

So the matte black finish isn't so bad after all,,,
It matches the matte finish of the rifle rather nicely.

Ain't it funny how very now and then,,,
Things just work out on their own. :)

Well, I lied a bit,,,

I said:
Come snow or freezing temps,,,
I'm going to take her to the range this weekend.

Saturday morning the temp at 8:00 was a chilly 26 degrees,,,
Sunday morning the temp at 8:00 was 24 degrees,,,
This morning the temp at 8:00 was 20 degrees.

Way too cold for my old bones,,,
I would have been shivering so much,,,
I would have been doing good to hit the berm.

Next weekend is looking better.
