Finally got to shoot Marushka

Day 1: bad day, very windy, my laser bore batteries died, so I decided to just shoot .... Off goes the cease fire alarm ... Secure for the day ... A second before I was about to shoot my very first round

Day 2: huge problems sighting in, never fired the rifle before, and I gave a scout scope mount and an AIM 2-7x32 scope on it ... Tried at 50 yards ... No idea where rounds went ... Tried at 25 ... Nope ... Went back to 50 ... Naaaah

So I aimed at a rock 150 yards out, close enough

Had a range safety officer guide me, and I finally got on target

Accuracy ? Every time I adjusted the last few rounds it landed where it should be, very very lady round one inch to the left of bulls eye at 100 yards ... I was still sighting in

So maybe this coming weekend I'll go back, turn two clicks to the right and take it from there

My fiancée (we're getting married April 11th, didn't want to shoot until the second to last shot ... She shot once .. And loved it sooooo much she wants her very own Mosin Nagant)

Slip on recoil pad

It's the right size, but it's flimsy, actually quite ANNOYING !! What have you guys done ? I'm open to suggestions.

Forget the laser bore sighters.
Set the rifle on a bag/bipod, with rear bag, remove the bolt, and sight down the bore. Optically center the target in the bore and VERY carefully without moving the rifle, adjust the windage and elevation of the scope to match. Double-check in case you moved the rifle accidentally.

Natch, if you have a spotter, walking the round into something (we grab whatever we can find, piece of cardboard or whatever) on the berm is the next step...

There is a company that makes a hard rubber pad that replaces the steel buttplate, try CTD and other online retailers.

Don't be chasing one or two clicks around the target, with a lower-end optic and surplus ammo. The scope won't track perfectly, and the surplus ammo is far from match grade. If you're hitting within 2-3 inches of your point of aim that's about the best you're gonna get.

ah, i love it when a mosin makes another person want to get one. i swear, that the best feeling. my mosins made many a mosin lover. from its stock look to its now target shooter mode, and no matter what i always enjoy shooting it.

Remember, you can get a easy to install recoil pad for her. makes it almost recoil less.(recoil pad)

so is it worth it? i thought it was personally. keep us posted on murushka, and post a pick of it to," Have a mosin, Post it!" thread

Actually I was using Partisan 182 grain, but I ran out as I was finally in target.

I just didn't like how the slip on pad kept moving around, it actually became a distraction.

Now that I know the rifle is almost sighted in, I'll probably go back to the range this weekend, and shoot some groups.

the slip on pads are not very effective, look at the one i suggested, its a swap for that metal plate screwed into the gun, very easy and quick install, that will reduce 65% of the recoil, making it way easy to shoot. and sadly its cheaper than the slip on pads lol

Aren't some of those direct fit pads so hard though that some people drill holes in them ? That's the reason I didn't get one before

no actually , they are rubber like. they also have 2 holes in them to fit over the holes that the metal plate in the stock is located at. just rescrew them back in , with the pad and not the metal plate. also gives long armed people a better shooting posture

helped me out on BL, when i shot her as i have long arms , also gives good cushion to the shooter. very inexpensive, and worth it

Alright I may have to give it a shot

Where should I get it from ? The ones on Amazon do have a bad rep, for hard rubber and not an excellent fit.
