Finally Got my CCW today!

Took the CCW class in early july, and just got the paper back from the sheriffs dept! I went straight to the DMV and got it put on a non-drivers ID to make it official. I concealed carried for the first time today! Felt a little different, but in a good way.

Congrats!

Now you must go to Walmart, it's part of the first time carry experience. Linger, shop, buy something if you must, but enjoy your new found freedom.

grats. go to walmart for about an hour. your paranoia should wear off in about a week. a month most.

Congratulations on the permit.

Since you're from MO, too, can you tell me the "total waiting days", please? It looks like your wait was less than 3 weeks (so, pretty darn fast). I travel (for work) and I don't want to put my application and fee in, head out of town for a few weeks, and have the Sherriff call up a week after I leave.

Thanks and sorry for diverting your thread a bit.

Chris

MO_mule---I sent you a pm.

The Sheriff by law has 3 days to request a background check, then after that up to 45 days to grant you the permit. Some counties take the full time, others like mine were pretty quick.

I don't think it matters how long its at the sheriffs office. Don't hold me to that. I went in, signed some papers, got fingerprinted, paid my fee and they said they would call. What matters is for sure is that once you leave the sheriffs office you have 7 days to get it on your license, or like me just get a non-driver id with the ccw mark.

Congrats coach. Your town is safer now. The Wally walk that's mentioned so often refers to walking around a very public place that dosen't prohibit concealed carry. It's a great place for new license holders to get over the opening night jitters.

Thanks for the PM -- very helpful info.

I guess that I misunderstood the time requirements in that the applicant would have to pick up the approved permit within 7 days but it makes more sense about the DMV part that has the time limit set on it.

My app is goin' in this week!

Thank you.

Chris

Congratulations! I think the WalMart thing is a mid-America rite of passage for new CCW permit holders -- you're supposed to carry inside of WalMart while shopping to get over feeling strange about it, or something like that. I didn't bother; I just carried everywhere and it quit feeling weird in a week or so.

I thought I should post a bit of an update since it might help others (and, again, sorry for polluting your thread, gunlovincoach).

I called the CCW office today and the very nice lady there told me that there is NO TIME LIMIT from when they send your notice (by mail). The only time restriction is that the new permit holder has to get to the DMV to update the driver license with the endorsement or get a state photo ID with the endorsement within 7 (seven) days after picking up the permit.

I'm going to put my application in tomorrow. ***edit: DONE!! end of edit***

Since I had chimed into your thread earlier and you helped me with info about CCW waiting times, I wanted to let you know that I got my CCW today. I got the approval letter about 10 days ago but I was out of town until yesterday. M640 in the pocket from here on out.

First place I went after I got my license was Home Depot. I was looking for plumbers lurking around corners waiting to attack me with giant pipe wrenches.:D
