Finally got my CCW after being denied

Earlier this summer I completed my training for my Kentucky CCW and submitted my application. I was quite upset a few weeks ago when I received notification from the Kentucky state police that my license was denied, stating I did not meet the requirements. I know my record wasn't spotless ( a couple of misdemeanors from my wilder college days ), but nothing that would disqualify me from getting my CCW. It turns out there was some sort of glitch on my criminal record that needed to be amended. That is ALL the state police told me when I went there to see what the problem was. At any rate, after submitting my denial letter for review and getting my record straightened out, I received notice today that my license shall be issued and will be available to pick up by Sept. 8 !!! It does bother me that for the last 10-15 years there was something on my criminal record that shouldn't have been there, and the fact that I was not even aware of it (and still not aware of what it was). Oh well....at least now things are right and I won't have to open carry anymore.

The lesson learned here is that it's not a bad idea to run a check on yourself every now and then just to see what is on your record ! It could save you a great deal of stress and perhaps legal issues down the road ! I know I'll be sleeping better tonight after the last few weeks of worrying about this.

I was unaware that you could request a copy of your criminal record...although now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense. I assume I'd need to do it with each state I lived in...can you do the same with federal agencies?

I recently learned that because another tenant with my name (very common) was evicted from my apartment complex two years ago (months before I'd even moved to Illinois) that there was a judgement against me with the county court for $1584 in addition to a collection on my credit report for over $4400. All the fault of the retards at the leasing office.

I'm afraid of what might have accidentally gotten on my criminal record

Tylden-
NC tried to pull a similar thing with me some years back when the first started the CCW program there....only it was the local Sheriff. He explained that the NICS check showed an unresolved weapons arrest in my background....it actually had to do with transporting an unloaded shotgun in the trunk and was thrown out at trial.

He explained that I had to get it straightened out but refused me copies of any of the reports. I called the State Attorney's office and reported the problem. I explained that NC is a "Shall Issue" state and if the local sheriff was going to deny me, he'd have to deny me....not tell me to straighten out a record that his office was paid by me to research.

Got a call from the Sheriff the very next day....my CCW License was ready. ;)
