Finally got me a Colt Python

This is my first contact with the Forum. At age 65 I've owned a lot of guns but never the one I admired the most...a Colt Python. On a recent trip to a local gun shop I noticed a nickle plated Python with 8" barrel in the used display case. It is like new...not a scratch or ding anywhere. The only mark I can see is the one left on the cylinder from rotation...it's slight. There is what I assume are powder burn marks on the front of the cylinder where two rounds were fired. After comparing prices on the internet I went back and bought it. Figured you only "go around once" so what the hell, it's only money. Paid $1,095 for it. Fair price? Plan to have it "lettered" later on. In the meantime can anyone help me with date of manufacture? Serial #LA7257
Also, would like to know if there are any books out there devoted to the Python. Would appreciate any comments on my latest toy. Thanks.

LA7257 was made in 1980.
The "LA" serial number series began and ended that year.
The series started with LA0101, and ended at LA9999.

There is no Python-specific book available.

Most Colt books are either devoted to the Single Action, or the 1911.
Most other books cover ALL Colt firearms, and the Python is just one model mentioned.

The best info available on the Python has been magazine articles.
Often gun magazine publishers sell back issues or reprints of specific articles.

The best Python articles were in:
American Handgunner magazine, Sept-Oct 1992.
Petersen's Handguns magazine, May 1987

Welcome. I have a Colt King Cobra and really enjoy shooting it. Too bad you don't see more Colts in the marketplace.
