Finally got Courtney out to the range,,,

Courtney is an undergrad at my computer lab,,,
She had expressed an interest in learning to shoot a handgun.

We went to the range two weeks ago,,,
But we had to leave early due to range maintenance.

Yesterday the weather was perfect right after work,,,
We were on the firing line at 5:45,,,
And we were all alone there.

I set up some 6" splatter targets at 5 yards,,,
The pistols were a Bersa Thunder 22 and a Thunder 380,,,
I also had the Ruger LC9 and my new Bersa Thunder pro UC-9.

Her first ten rounds with the .22 did not hit the target,,,
But she did group them a bit so that wasn't bad,,,
Then her next ten rounds were all on paper,,,
Then her next ten and the next.

She fired 60 rounds of .22,,,
She made 49 holes in the target.

I told her to forget that first ten shots,,,
They were just to get acquainted with the pistol. ;)

Then she fired the Thunder 380,,,
I was only loading five rounds at a time,,,
But 25 rounds made 23 new holes in the target.

She has very small hands,,,
The Bersa UC-9 has a double-stack mag,,,
The grip is a bit fat so she couldn't get a good grip on it.

She didn't do well with that gun,,,
But with the LC9 she did very well indeed.

20 rounds made 19 holes in the target.

So she posed by the target stand,,,
Only to find my camera battery was dead,,,
But she did save the targets for her scrapbook.

I have made a convert,,,
Right now she is out in the lab,,,
Booking her seat in a concealed carry class.

This payday she will join the NRA.

One more notch in my handle. ;)

Excellent work. We should all do our part to expand the shooting sports and responsible firearm ownership in general.

but of course after reading, I remembered you always like to take the cute college gals & bar maids out to shoot...

you know you'll end up making a holster for her too ;)

I take the guys to the range as well,,,
But when they aren't Wyatt Earp right off the bat,,,
They are the ones who get discouraged and give it up.

The ladies on the other hand,,,
They have no preconceived notions,,,
They just listen, practice, and learn quicker then the guys.

And they smell so much nicer. :rolleyes:

Well done sir!!

My experience as an NRA basic pistol instructor mirrors yours exactly. ALL of my female students were much easier to teach than their male counterparts.

It took me two paragraphs to figure out you were talking about a person...
