Finally bought a SIG 229...

.357SIG

New member
Picked up a 229 with two factory barrels (a 357SIG barrel and a .40 S&W barrel) today at the local shop. It is used, but certainly not beat up. The only visible sign of use is the usual barrel wear on the top part inside the slide and on the hood. I didn't get a great deal by any means, but I didn't get ripped off either at $699 (IMO). My last experience with the 229 357 was absolutely wonderful and I can't wait to hit the range with this thing!

There's only one problem I see with this set up. I have to be extra careful not to put the 357 rounds into the .40 barrel.

That Sig 229 is a awesome gun. I love mine. Never had a FTF or any problems with it....

Congratulations

What matters is that you're happy. Don't second guess yourself on the price. You'll really like your P229.

You are 110% correct, Tecolote. When buying a gun, whether it's $50 or $5000, all that matters is whether the person is happy with their purchase. If I had any second thoughts, I'd have been out the door empty handed. I think I got it for a fair price with 2 factory barrels.

Nice pic, Lightsped. Mine has a checkered frontstrap.

Thanks for the kind words. Can't go wrong with a SIG.

Checkered front strap? Mine has fine horizontal grooves (which aren't visible in the pic). If your 229 is checkered that means there must be more than one version/variation of the 229.

Front strap

Oops. I used the wrong terminology. It is not checkered, just has a bunch of horizontal lines (maybe 30 LPI). From your pic, I thought you had a smooth grip.

Isn't the P229 a *great* pistol...

Take it out of the box, lube it, shoot it!

Mine always works and I'm closing in on 3,000 rounds without a single failure of any kind.

It's a legitimate three-caliber pistol now.

An excellent choice. I have the P229 in .357 Sig and have been toying with getting the .40 S&W barrel for it. Please post a range report comparing the two loads from the same gun if/when you have time.
Take Care

Excellent decision. Only things I've added to my 229 are some Trijicon's and (I splurged here!) some Crimson Trace Lasergrips. Hard to beat this package for defense!

I have a .40 229 and let me ask you guys this. Sig triggers on all models are to long for me. (I DON'T HAVE SHORT FINGERS) I had a short trigger installed and It's much better. Anybody else feel this way.
